BYTEFIX Utility

Brief Description:
The BYTEFIX utility repairs corrupted .WK4 files. This utility
will only fix files that have been padded with extra bytes at
the end of the file. It will not fix files that have been truncated
or otherwise corrupted.

How to Use this Utility:

Type the following at a DOS prompt in the directory
where the BYTEFIX.EXE file is located (or Run BYTEFIX.EXE
	from within Windows or OS/2):

		BYTEFIX filename.ext

Filename.ext represents the name of the corrupted
file. Note that the complete filename must be given.
In addition, if the .WK4 file is not located in the same
directory as the BYTEFIX.EXE file, you must specify the
	complete path to the file.

		Example:
		BYTEFIX c:\data\file0001.wk4

The program will then display the following output in italics.

Repaired file name is File0001.fix.
Repair completed.

Notes:

The input file need not have .WK4 as the extension; however,
you must specify the complete filename. The file cannot have
the extension ".FIX", since this is the default output
extension. If the input extension is .FIX, you are asked to
rename the file. The output filename is the same as the input
name with an extension of .FIX.

The BYTEFIX program will not repair files that have corrupted
data, nor will it repair truncated files. If the program prints
"Unable to repair file." instead of "Repair completed.", this
is an indication that the problem is probably truncation. No
output file is created in this circumstance.

If the BYTEFIX program succeeds in repairing a file, but the data
is wrong or missing when the file is loaded into 1-2-3, then the
file is probably corrupted internally as well. The file may be
loaded, but the data cannot be repaired (at least by BYTEFIX).

This utility will not work with files from versions of 1-2-3
prior to Release 5.
