  3. For environments unconstrained by memory or DASD, the CPW values below may be achievable.
  4. The Commercial Processing Workload (CPW) benchmark is a way to show the total system performance capacity in a traditional commercial processing environment. Due to the maximum memory requirements of CPW, the systems with the Growth processor (as in Packages 0182 and 0184) will receive the same CPW rating as systems with the Entry processor. Using other workloads, e.g., some client/server environments where processing demands are higher, the Growth processor can improve throughput over the Entry processor.

The CPW of a system without any memory or DASD constraints could be:

Notes:

1.      Relative system performance measurements (CPW values) are based on AS/400 environment, commercial processing workload (CPW). The CPW workl representative of commercial applications, particularly those that do significant database processing in conjunction with journaling and commitment control. CPW values may not be realized in all environments.

o        Constrained CPW Rating: Maximum memory or DASD configuration become the constraining factor instead of the processor.

  1. Two slots reserved for Integrated PC Server (5). Three driven by the MFIOP.
  2. Six lines total. One dedicated to operations console.
  3. Maximum of one LAN driven off MFIOP, none if Integrated PC Server (5) installed.

Operating Environment

Limitations

Although the AS/400e server 150 uses the industry-standard Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) packaging, only specified IBM PCI features are supported.

Hardware Requirements

The minimum system configuration consists of a system unit and a system console. The system requires AS/400 Licensed Internal Code (preloaded on the system disk storage unit).

For a new V4R4 system, ensure the free DASD space is large enough to install your applications and data files and run your programs.

The preloaded functions of BasePak require 2.4 GB of DASD space. You can load the optional items of BasePak using the licensed program installation menu. These will require 0.4 GB of DASD space if all functions are loaded. Add the size of the added functions to the amount of DASD space occupied by BasePak to calculate the remaining DASD space available for your applications and data.

At least 500 MB of free DASD space is required to upgrade AS/400 Licensed Internal Code and OS/400 to V4R4 from previous releases. To upgrade to V4R4, check the amount of free space available using the Work with System Status command (WRKSYSSTS). If you have less than 500 MB of free space available, increase your free space to 500 MB by deleting unneeded programs and files (after saving them on tape) or by adding more DASD to your system, before upgrading.

For V4R4 sizing information, visit the Internet at:

http://www.as400.ibm.com

The system console may be any supported display or IBM-compatible personal computer emulating a supported display. The system console should be located within six meters (20 feet) of the operator's panel, and the operator's panel must be viewable from the display.

Although a printer is not required for service, IBM representatives can better diagnose the system when a printer is available.

Although not required for hardware service, IBM's ability to service the system is greatly enhanced when a voice telephone is available within view of the system. The telephone must not be connected to phone mail or an answering machine, since the ability to receive calls on this telephone is important for communications between support personnel and IBM representatives. This telephone line is in addition to the one needed for ECS.

An IBM high-speed data/fax modem, IBM 7852 or equivalent, is required for ECS.

Communication Features

(#0367) Operations Console PCI Cable and #0381 Remote Control Panel Cable:   The AS/400 supports a new directly-attached, full-function 5250 PC console that includes a graphical control panel application. The user interface of the control panel application resembles its hardware counterpart. The console and control panel applications can be used together or separately, but each requires its own direct cable attachment to an AS/400 system. Each cable must be purchased separately from IBM for the AS/400 model being used. Both cables are only available in a single length of six meters.

The direct-attach console can also serve as a gateway for a dial-in remote console. The remote console can also be configured to run the 5250 emulator application and/or the graphical control panel application. Both applications enable you to perform the majority of system operations tasks, for example back-up and communication line. It also provides twinaxial attachability.

Note: Remote power on is not supported with #0367 unless #0381 (Remote Control Panel Cable) is ordered.

(#2720) Workstation/Communication Adapter:   This adapter attaches to the MFIOP. It provides a single communication line. It also provides twinaxial attachability.

This adapter is shipped as base (no feature code) on all Twinaxial Packages.

This adapter is available as a feature on all Server Packages.

Specify one of the following cables:

(#2721) MultiProtocol Communication Adapter:   (For IBM US, No Longer Available as of October 31, 2000)

This adapter attaches to the MFIOP and provides two communication lines. It is shipped as base (no feature code) on all Server Packages.

Specify two of the following cables:

Note: Remote power on is not supported with #0367 unless #0381 (Remote Control Panel Cable) is ordered.

Requires a position on the MFIOP

Maximum: Three.

Maximum Communications Lines by Package:

Package      Total Comm Lines (1)
---------    ----------------
Twinaxial          5
Server             6*

*NOTE: One of these lines is required for client access console,
which reduces the usable communication lines to five total.

Tape/CD-ROM Features

CD-ROM Drive

A CD-ROM drive is included with all Model 150s.

2.5GB 1/4-inch cartridge tape unit

This tape is the same as #6381 and is included with #018x and #019x packages.

4.0GB 1/4-inch cartridge tape unit

This tape is the same as #6382 and is included with #029x, #039x, and #059x packages. It does not support the QIC 24 format used in S/36 1/4-inch tape units.

(#6381) 2.5GB l/4-inch cartridge tape unit:   (For IBM US, No Longer Available as of December 29, 2000)

This tape unit supports compaction increasing total tape capacity to 5.0GB and supports the QIC 24 format used in the S/36 l/4-inch tape units. This tape can be ordered as an MES to replace the package 4.0GB tape included in the #029x, #039x, and #059x packages, if S/36 compatibility is required.

(#6382) 4GB l/4-Inch cartridge tape unit:   (For IBM US, No Longer Available as of December 3, 2002)

#6382, at 400KB/s and 4GB per cartridge (800KB/s and 8GB per cartridge with data compaction), provides a growth path for older 150s. It may be used for save/restore, alternate IPL, program distribution, migration, and l/4-inch cartridge tape exchange. Backward read/write capability to previous generations of QIC drives protects the customers investment in QIC technology. The 4GB tape unit does not support the S/36 QIC-24 tape format. This drive is an optional feature to replace the l/4-inch cartridge tape unit included with the #018x and #019x packages, if S/36 compatibility is not required.

Miscellaneous Features

(#0032) High Speed Modem:   This feature is used to order (ECS) modems. A modem is shipped based on the modems homologated in each country.

(#0325) IPCS Extension Cables for NT:   Extension cables for the display, mouse, and keyboard cables that ship with features #2852 and #2868. Feature #0325 should be ordered when longer cables are required to attach the display, mouse or keyboard to #2852 or #2868.

Prerequisite: #2852 or #2868 with NT operating system.

Maximum: One.

Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS)

A UPS provides continuous, no-break power during a power outage or momentary power interruption, providing significant improvements in system up-time. There is no internal battery back-up unit (BBU) for the AS/400e server Model 150. Recommended UPSs are manufactured by
Best** Power, a unit of General Signal (Best Power). All UPSs are 50/60 Hz.

For more information on these UPSs and their features, read Hardware Announcement 194-025, dated 2/01/94 (Model EX3), and Hardware Announcement 195-170, dated 6/21/95, for Exide Electronics, and Hardware Announcements 195-171, dated 6/21/95, and 195-287, dated 10/10/95, for all Best Power models.

Check with your IBM Representative for product availability in your country.
