Abstract

IBM AS/400 Advanced 36 is a business computing system that offers significant increases in capacity and performance for System/36 customers. It is built on existing System/36 software functions and interfaces and is a member of the AS/400 Advanced Series, sharing the 9402 packaging, and incorporating a new state-of-the-art 64-bit RISC processor. Three pre-defined, specially priced system packages are offered to simplify the ordering process. Each of the packages can be ordered with additional optional features.

Model Abstract 9402-236:   (For IBM US, No Longer Available as of December 12, 1997)

System/36 applications using non-privileged, documented interfaces are object-code compatible on AS/400 Advanced 36. Customers need not recompile or change their System/36 applications. Interactive performance of IBM AS/400 Advanced 36 is from two to four times faster than System/36, and batch performance is from four to eight times faster.

Communications Features

Communications Controllers

The Base MFIOP includes support for two adapters. These adapters provide support for attachment of communications adapters or the external diskette adapter. Refer to diskette unit feature #6146 for attachment considerations. One adapter (#9612) is standard in the base, choose either #9612 or #8609 (additional charge). The following adapters may be attached to the base MFIOP.

The following combinations of adapters are supported on the MFIOP for AS/400 Advanced 36:

·         One EIA 232/V.24 two-line Adapter or one EIA 232/V.24 one-line Adapter, supporting up to a maximum of two lines.

Base MFIOP Communications Combinations

Two communications adapters are supported by the MFIOP. The first is a V.24 adapter. The second can be used as a diskette adapter instead of a communication adapter. A diskette adapter does not restrict concurrent communication combinations beyond its using an adapter position. The following chart lists the concurrent communications combinations.
