Abstract

AS/400 Advanced System 4XX and 5XX models have IBM PowerPC microprocessors. With over 25,000 applications, AS/400 Advanced System provides you with the broadest base of business solutions in the industry. Leading-edge technology provides these solutions at the lowest cost. Capacity and performance have been increased, and you can upgrade without rewriting or recompiling existing applications, providing observability has been retained.

The AS/400 Advanced System Model 530, with a 4-way PowerPC AS microprocessor, can provide 67% improvement in system performance in commercial interactive environments over the Model 320. The Model 530 average price/performance improvement is targeted to be 40%. Any comparison between Model 530 performance and that of other AS/400 models will be based upon a comparison of their relative system performance ratios.

The IBM 9406 Model 530 has main storage base of 512 MB and a base DASD capacity of 1.96 GB.

Description

Base System Description - Models 500, 510, 530

AS/400 Advanced System Model 500, 510, and 530 system units shipped from the plant, contain the system processor, main storage, Multi-Function I/O Processor (MFIOP), integrated DASD, an integrated CD-ROM drive, a communications adapter for Electronic Customer Support (ECS), and a workstation controller or the client-access console option to support a system console.

The AS/400 Advanced System structure provides the ability to select the system processor from several options. The options available for each model provide different levels of performance to match your requirements.

The Multi-Function I/O Processor provides support for disk storage, internal tape and CD-ROM and two communication lines. One EIA 232/V.24 One-Line Communication Adapter is provided for use with the ECS facility. The second communication line adapter is optional and can be featured with either an EIA 232/V.24, X.21 or a V.35 adapter. The Multi-Function I/O Processor supports async, BSC, SDLC, X.25 Protocols and X.21 Short Hold Mode function.

Included in the base system unit on both new and MES upgrade systems, is one 1.96 GB, 3 1/2-inch disk unit. Optionally, a 4.19 GB DASD unit may be substituted for the base disk unit.

A CD-ROM drive is included in AS/400 Advanced System RISC model system units. It is used for software distribution of OS/400 and IBM licensed programs. Alternate IPL is supported. It can also be used for software distribution by independent software vendors and for applications using the HFS API. The ISO 9660 CD format is supported.

A workstation controller or the client-access console option is included in the base system, to support a system console. One must be selected on the initial order. The workstation controller supports either twinaxial, ASCII or LocalTalk devices. The Client Access Console adapter supports a PC.

To reduce the effect of utility power interruptions and the associated system recovery activities, a Battery Power Unit feature is standard on all plant shipped system units and attached expansion/extension towers. The battery power unit allows the system to remain powered-up during short power outages. During longer outages, it provides continuous power to maintain the contents of main storage for one to two days.

Concurrent DASD add and repair on the Models 500, 510 and 530 make it possible to add and/or repair internal DASD units and externally attached 9337 DASD devices on the system while the system is fully operational. The availability improvement of mirroring and device parity protection (RAID) is enhanced by being able to add and/or repair DASD devices while the system continues to run. Also, using OS/400 V3R6, you may mix-or- match different disk units with equal capacity for mirroring.

System Performance Information

The performance of AS/400 models is provided using a new workload called Commercial Processing Workload (CPW). RAMP-C was used in the past. Changes in customer environments and dramatic growth both in the raw performance and system capacity of AS/400, driven by PowerPC technology, reduce the effectiveness of the RAMP-C workload measurements.

CPW is based on a more sophisticated transaction processing workload. Derived from TPC-C, it is more representative of industry standard benchmarks than is RAMP-C. The CPW workload is a modified implementation of the TPC-C workload and not representative of IBM's or other vendor optimized implementations. For comparison purposes, an AS/400 9404 Model B10 has a CPW value of 2.9, for the interactive environment.

AS/400 Advanced System Package Offerings

The packaged offerings, available on new system orders only, are priced lower than custom configurations. The combined hardware/software packages are not intended to be used when upgrading from AS/400 CISC (IMPI) systems to AS/400 RISC systems.

Unless specified otherwise, all features listed must be on the order to receive the package price. You can order additional features at published prices. No deletions may be made from the defined packages. Some substitutions may be made as described with each package.

Software included in the combined hardware/software packages will be preloaded (except in Canada and Latin America).

The 9406 Model 500, 510, and 530 initial installations will be performed by IBM service representatives, as will model upgrades and feature installations for all models.

The customer is responsible for installation of external cables and associated displays and printers. Customers who request IBM service personnel to perform these activities are subject to a charge.

Disk Units

The following disk units are supported on the AS/400 Advanced System 5XX models:

9337 Disk Array Subsystem Models 420, 440, and 480

These models, for use on AS/400 Advanced System 5XX models, introduce the third generation of RAID-5 disk arrays that improve data loss protection and enhance performance with state-of-the-art disk storage technology, and 4 MB non-volatile write cache controller. These models also offer improved reliability and availability features, including redundant power, concurrent maintenance, and hot-spare function supported in high-availability mode. The hot-spare function is implemented and supported at the 9337 model level. It is transparent to the AS/400 system.

The three new models offer up to eight state-of-the-art 3.5-inch disk drives in a 19-inch rack-mountable unit. Models 420 and 440 provide 970 MB and 1,967 MB of storage capacity respectively, with a 4 MB write- cache. Model 480 introduces the new 4,190 MB disk drive technology with a 4 MB write-cache. This doubles the previous storage capacity in the same footprint. The maximum capacity per I/O rack for a fully configured Model 480 in base mode is 201.1 GB and 175.9 GB of capacity for high- availability RAID-5 protection.

Four disk drives come standard in all 9337 4XX models with an option to add up to four additional feature drives of the same capacity. The new models operate in either base mode or high availability mode, and may coexist on the same system with previously announced 9337 Disk Array Subsystem Models 0XX, 1XX, and 2XX.

2440-A12 - 1/2 Inch Reel-to-Reel Tape Subsystem (not supported on the Model 400) (withdrawn from marketing)

3422 Magnetic Tape Subsystem (withdrawn from marketing)

The 3422 is a 1/2-inch reel-to-reel intermediate performance tape subsystem. The 3422 reads or writes data at 6,250 bpi at a nominal data rate of 780 KB per second or 1,600 bpi at a nominal data rate of 200 KB per second. It is a start/stop drive and is provided for alternate IPL, program distribution, and 1/2-inch reel tape interchange.

The 3422 consists of a Model A01 with a tape controller and one tape drive and a Model B01 with one tape drive and no controller. A maximum of three B01s can be attached to a Model A01 for a total of four drives per string. The 3422 attaches via the 3490 Magnetic Tape Subsystem Attachment (#2644).

The 3422 Tape drive supports 1.5 mil thick tape media up to a maximum of 2400 feet. Maximum: See the AS/400 model summary table.

3430 Magnetic Tape Subsystem (withdrawn from marketing)

The 3430 is a 1/2-inch reel-to-reel medium performance tape subsystem. The 3430 reads or writes data at 6,250 bpi at a nominal data rate of 312KB per second or 1,600 bpi at a nominal data rate of 80KB per second. It is a start/stop drive and is provided for alternate IPL, program distribution, and 1/2-inch reel tape interchange.

The 3430 consists of a Model A01 with a tape controller and one tape drive and a Model B01 with one tape drive and no controller. A maximum of three B01s can be attached to a Model A01 for a total of four drives per string. The 3430 attaches via the 3490 Magnetic Tape Subsystem Attachment (#2644).

The 3430 Tape drive supports 1.5 mil thick tape media up to a maximum of 2400 feet. Maximum: See the AS/400 model summary table.

3480 Magnetic Tape Subsystem (withdrawn from marketing)

The 3480 is a 1/2-inch cartridge high performance tape subsystem with a capacity of up to 200 MB per Cartridge System Tape. The 3480 reads and writes at an instantaneous data rate of 3 MB per second. It is provided for program distribution, alternate IPL, save/restore, and 1/2-inch cartridge tape interchange. The Improved Data Recording Capability (IDRC) feature of the 3480 can increase the amount of data that can be stored on a cartridge by up to three times, depending on the data. The 3480 Magnetic Tape Subsystem provides concurrent operations when attached to more than one host system.

One 3480 A11 control unit and up to eight B11 tape drives or one A22 control unit and up to eight B22 tape drives attach via the 3490 Magnetic Tape Subsystem Attachment/HP (#2644). Maximum: See AS/400 Model Summary tables.

3490/3490E Magnetic Tape Subsystem Models AXX-DXX

The 3490/3490E is a high performance 1/2-inch cartridge tape subsystem with a range of models that read and write at an instantaneous data rate of up to 3 MB per second when attached with feature #2644. The 3490 models use the Cartridge System Tape media, providing up to 200 MB per cartridge. The 3490E models use either the Cartridge System Tape media with up to 400 MB per cartridge or the Enhanced Capacity Cartridge System Tape media with up to 800 MB per cartridge. The models are differentiated as follows:

The 3490 and 3490E models are provided for program distribution, alternate IPL, save/restore, and 1/2-inch cartridge tape interchange. The 3490 Magnetic Tape Subsystem provides concurrent operations when attached to more than one host system.

The 3490 and 3490E models are floor standing units except the 3490E C10, C11, and C22 which are functionally equivalent to the 3490E D41 and D42 but mount into a system rack. The C models must be installed in one of the following rack enclosures:

3490E feature #5037, Parallel Channel Attachment, is a prerequisite on Models C10, C11, and C22 for attachment to the AS400 Advanced Systems.

The Automatic Cartridge Loader (ACL) feature accepts six 1/2-inch tape cartridges, five in the ACL and one in the drive. It is standard on the BXX, C11 and C22 models, a feature on the DXX models and not supported on the C10.

The Improved Data Recording Capability (IDRC) can increase the amount of data that can be stored on a cartridge by up to three times, depending on the data. It is standard on the 3490E models and a feature on the 3490 models.

The 3490 Magnetic Tape Subsystems can be shared between AS/400 systems, System/370 and System/390 as follows:

3490E Magnetic Tape Subsystem Models E01 and E11 (withdrawn from marketing)

The 3490E E01 and E11 models are media compatible with the current 3490E models, but offer a lower cost, smaller size, increased performance, and increased Cartridge Stack Loader (CSL) capacity. The new models include rack-mount and table-top versions, both with a seven cartridge CSL. Each model has an integrated control unit and one tape drive. Data compaction with Improved Data Recording Capability (IDRC) provides up to three times compaction. With IDRC, data transfer rates up to 4.9 MB/sec are obtained. Unattended save capacity up to 16.8 GB is provided. One or two 3490E E models are supported using #6501.

The 3490E EXX models cannot be shared between two systems, and distance from the system is limited to 82 ft (25 meters). The 3490E CXX models should be selected when system sharing is required, and/or distance up to 400 ft (121 meters) is required. Also, the 3490E EXX models cannot be migrated to the 3494 Tape Library Dataserver Model L10, while the 3490E CXX models can.

3490E Tape Drive Models F00, F01, F11, and F1A

Model F00 is a single drive. Model F01 is floor-standing and the F11 is rack-mounted, both with a standard 10 cartridge autoloader. Model F1A is used in a 3494 Tape Library Dataserver. Each model reads and writes 36-track tape cartridges, and reads 18-track 1/2-inch tape cartridges. Native performance is 3MB/s. IDRC data compaction is provided. OS/400 V3R1, or later, is required. With OS/400 V4R2, F-mode is supported providing the following new functions:

F-mode is not supported for the 3490E-F1A in a 3494 Tape Library Dataserver. F-mode is supported back to OS/400 V3R1 (PTFs are required prior to V4R1). Random mode is not supported on V3R6.

Magstar 3494 Tape Library

The Magstar 3494 Tape Library Model L10 is stand-alone, automated tape-storage subsystem designed to provide unattended tape operation.

The 3494 Tape Library Dataserver Model L12 offers the high reliability and high availability features of the Model L10 with the added support of the 3590 High Performance Tape Subsystem Model B1A. This allows customers to automate tape data handling with the latest technology. The ability to support the 3490E and 3590 technology in the same library offers customers a fast and convenient way to manage these tape media.

Using Backup Recovery and Media Services/400 (5763-BR1) Version 3 Release 1 or later, the 3494 provides automated system backup and recovery. Use of this product along with an IBM Services Offering is optional, but recommended.

3494 Highlights:

The 3490E-CXA, F1A, and 3590-B1A tape drives within the library attach to the AS/400 in the same way as the 3490E-CXX, FXX, and 3490 B1A tape drives.

On the AS/400, one EIA 232/V.24 Line Adapter or a LAN attachment is required for each 3494 Tape Library. F-mode is not supported for the 3490E-F1A in a 3494 Tape Library

Magstar MP Tape Subsystem

The Magstar MP Tape Subsystem is an automated tape subsystem for the AS/400 providing high levels of reliability, with lower price, capacity and performance than the 3590. Device native data rate is 2.2MB/sec, and up to 6.6MB/sec with compaction. Native capacity is 5GB per cartridge, and up to 15GB per cartridge with compaction. The Magstar MP tape cartridge is a new, unique design.

The Magstar MP Tape Subsystem is available in five models. The B00 is a stand-alone drive. The B01 and B11 are automated models with a single tape drives, supporting random access to two removable magazines, each supporting ten tape cartridges, with a total capacity of up to 300GB with compaction. The B01 is stand-alone, and the B11 is a rack mounted.

The B02 and the B12 are also automated models, supporting two tape drives and a total capacity up to 300GB with compaction. The B02 is stand-alone, and the B12 is a rack mounted. Models B02 and B12 support two modes of operation: Base Mode and Split Mode. In Base Mode, both drives are attached to a single host with access to 20 tapes for a maximum capacity of 300GB compacted. When configured in Split Mode, the 3570 subsystem is effectively split into two separate 10-cartridge libraries. In Split Mode, the 3570 attaches to two hosts, with each host accessing one drive and 10 tape cartridges for a maximum capacity of 150GB with compaction. This mode provides an effective solution for high-capacity, unattended backup, and does not require switches or recabling.

The Magstar MP Tape Subsystem attaches to all AS/400 DXX and later models, except the D02, E02, F02, and P03. Attachment is with feature #6501 (Tape/Disk Device Controller), supporting one or two drives. Alternate IPL is supported.

Backup Recovery and Media Services/400 (BRMS/400) is recommended to support automation in tape handling, media management, and automatic migration of data between tape and DASD based on user defined policies. For those developing unique applications, OS/400 provides a command interface.

IBM software distribution will not be provided on Magstar MP media for OS/400 V3R1 or V3R2 (see RPQ 843910 for additional information). A second tape drive will be required. The Magstar MP Tape Subsystem cannot be shared by two systems. OS/400 V3R1 or later and PTFs are required.

3590 High Performance Tape Subsystem

The 3590 is a new automated tape subsystem for the AS/400, reaching higher levels of reliability, capacity and performance. The drive rate of 9 MB per second is three times faster than previous IBM 3480, 3490 or 3490E tape drives, allowing tape applications to read and write data more quickly. Using the built-in data compression capability, the 3590 has a potential maximum throughput of 20 MB per second. Actual throughput is a function of end-to-end system capabilities including processor, DASD, bus, IOP, OS/400 blocking and data compaction.

The 3590 uses new read/write and media technology for vastly increased capacity and reliability. The new cartridge has an uncompacted data capacity of 10 GB, or typically over 30 GB assuming a 3:1 compaction ratio. The capacity of an individual drive has further been increased by the addition of the Automatic Cartridge Facility (ACF), which allows an operator to mount ten cartridges at a time via a magazine. Thus an individual drive can provide storage for 100 to 300 GB of data. The 3590 cannot read or write 3490E tape cartridges.

The 3590 is available in two models. The Model B11 is rack mounted and includes a 10-cartridge Automatic Cartridge Facility (ACF) that can be used in random access mode as a mini-library. The Model B1A does not include the ACF and is designed to fit into the 3494 Tape Library Dataserver, increasing total library capacity to over 90 terabytes.

The 3590 attaches to all DXX and later models of the AS/400, except the X02 and P03 models, using AS/400 Feature #6501 (Magnetic Media Subsystem Controller). Each feature #6501 can support up to two tape drives. The 3490 has two SCSI ports and can be shared between two systems.

Backup Recovery and Media Services/400 (BRMS/400) is recommended to support automation in tape handling, media management, fast search, and automatic migration of data between tape and DASD based on user defined policies. For developing unique applications, OS/400 provides a command interface.

7208 8mm External Tape Drives

The 7208 is an 8mm helical scan, medium performance, high capacity, streaming tape drive with models supporting media capacity of up to 20.0GB per cartridge. The Model 2 (Withdrawn from marketing) provides 2.3GB capacity. When hardware data compression (HDC) on the IOP is enabled, it typically provides 1.4 times improvement in capacity and transfer rate. The 7208 Model 12 provides 5GB capacity, the Model 222 provides 7GB and the model 342 provides 20GB. Models 012, 222, and 342 support an implementation of IBM's Improved Data Recording Capability (IDRC) that typically provides a two times improvement in capacity and transfer rate.

All 7208 models are stand-alone, table-top devices, and can be used for save/restore, alternate IPL, program interchange and 8mm cartridge tape interchange with other AS/400 systems. Kits for rack-mounting are available via RPQ 841997 for the Model 2 and RPQ 841998 for the Model 12. The 7208 attaches to the AS/400 with the following features:

Full interchange of data is supported between Models 002, 012, 222, 342, and the 9427 and the internal 7GB 8mm tape units using the proper tape media and recording format.

The Model 2 has an instantaneous data transfer rate of 245KBps second. When HDC is enabled the unattended save rate would typically be 1GB/Hr with 3.5GB of data stored per cartridge. The Model 12 has an instantaneous data transfer rate of 500KBps. When IDRC is enabled the unattended save rate would typically be 3GB/Hr with 10GB of data stored per cartridge. The Model 222 has a sustained data transfer rate of 500KBps. Using IDRC, maximum effective data transfer rate is up to 1MBps, and capacity is up to 14GB of data stored per cartridge, depending on the type of data. The Model 342 has a sustained data transfer rate of 3MBps. Using IDRC, maximum effective data transfer rate is up to 4.3MBps, and capacity is up to 40GB of data stored per cartridge, depending on the type of data.

Model 222 requires the support of OS/400 Version 3 Release 1. Model 342 requires support of OS/400 Version 4 Release 1. Maximums: See the AS/400 model summary table.

9347-001 - 1/2 Inch Reel Tape Unit (withdrawn from marketing)

9348 Magnetic Tape Units

The 9348 is a streaming 1/2-inch reel-to-reel tape drive that provides save/restore, alternate IPL, program distribution and 1/2-inch reel tape interchange. The 9348 offers dual density of 1,600/6250 bpi with an instantaneous data rate of 200KB per second at 1,600 bpi and 781KB per second at 6,250 bpi. The 9348 tape drive supports 1.5 mil thick tape media up to a maximum of 2400 feet.

Two 9348 Magnetic Tape Units can attach to a Removable Media Device Attachment Feature (#2621) on AS/400 Advanced Systems. The Model 1 is rack mounted and the Model 2 is a free-standing, table-top unit.

The 9348 Magnetic Tape Units include an attachment cable and terminator. Specify cable length as follows:

9427 8mm Tape Cartridge Library Models 210 and 211

The 9427 Models 210 and 211 are automated tape libraries supported on all AS/400 D, E, and F models (except Models D02 and E02), and on all AS/400 Advanced Series models. The 9427-210 is a stand-alone unit, and the 9427-211 is rack-mount unit that requires 14 EIA units and 1/2 of the horizontal rack space. Two Model 211 units can be placed in a rack, side-by-side. Each 9427 supports one or two 7 GB 8mm tape drives. Up to twenty tape cartridges are supported. Optional features to support dual host channels, tape mirroring for fault tolerance, off-line host independent functions (tape copy and compare), and a label printer port will be available. Device performance is 1.5 MB/sec. The 9427 is available in black or white.

Tape cartridge capacity is 7 GB and sustained data transfer rate is 500 KBps. Using Improved Data Recording Capability (IDRC), maximum tape cartridge capacity is up to 14 GB, and effective data transfer rate is up to 1 MBps, depending on the type of data. Total 9427 capacity is up to 280 GB.

The 9427 can be used for save/restore, alternate IPL (except on Models D04, D06, D10 and D20), program distribution, migration, data interchange, automatic migration of data between DASD and tape, and mass storage for data archive. Full interchange of data is supported with the 7208-002, 7208-012 and 7208-232 tape drives, and the AS/400 Advanced Series internal 7 GB 8mm tape units, using the proper tape density and 7208-002/012 tape media.

Media is handled in two, ten-cartridge magazines, which can easily be added to or removed from the tape library. Each library has a bar-code reader used to inventory the library contents, and a display on the front panel that is used for status and error codes. Keys located next to the display are used for selecting operating options. The 9427 has a front door of clear plastic so that the robotics, drives and cartridge tapes can be seen while in operation. The door has a key-lock for security.

Neither the 7 GB 8mm Cartridge Tape unit located in the AS/400 system unit, nor the 7208-222, can be migrated to a 9427.

The 9427 is attached to the AS/400 via the Removable Media Device Attachment (#2621), with a maximum of one 9427 per #2621. The Removable Media Device Attachment (#2621) has two SCSI ports. The 9427 can attach to the #2621 using one or two ports (two ports are required for maximum performance of the 9427). If the 9427 is attached using only one SCSI port, then the other SCSI port can be used to attach other devices. A feature is available to support attachment to two systems with random access to cartridges, tape mirroring, offline tape copy and compare, and a label printer port.

Backup, Recovery and Media Services/400 (5763-BR1) is recommended to support automation in tape handling, media management, and automatic migration of data between tape and DASD based on user defined policies. For those developing unique library applications, OS/400 provides a library command interface.

Optical Devices

3995 Optical Library Dataserver

The 3995 Optical Library Dataserver Models C40, C42, C44, C46 and C48, with direct attach capability, add a new level of price, capacity and performance to the existing storage hierarchy of magnetic disk, optical, and tape. The new models support 52GB, 135GB, 278GB, 405GB or 670GB of storage using the industry-standard 2.6GB multifunction optical drive. Model C44 can be upgraded to a Model C46.

The 3995 attaches to the AS/400 with the following features:

3995-A4X, 04X and 14X models are not supported on features #2729 and #6534.

LAN-attached Models C20, C22, C24, C26, and C28 support 52GB, 135GB, 278GB, 405GB, and 670GB of storage using the 2.6GB multifunction optical drive.

The 2.6GB drive has two-times the capacity of existing drives and supports both rewritable and WORM optical disks. This new drive also improves data transfer rate and reliability over the existing 1.3GB optical drives.

These new 3995 models are ideally suited for enabling applications to bring data currently stored on paper, microfiche, or microfilm on-line. You can also use the 3995 as a low-cost complement to high-performance magnetic disk to extend the online life of your data. The new libraries will automate optical disk handling using the latest technology with improvements in disk exchange time and reliability. The following OS/400 support is required:

9331-001 - 8-inch Diskette Unit (Rack Mounted)

9331 Diskette Unit Models 11 and 12

The 9331 Model 11 is an eight-inch diskette drive packaged in a stand- alone unit. The eight-inch diskette unit allows the customer to migrate and exchange data with existing eight-inch diskette based systems and data entry devices such as System/36 Models 5360, 5362, System/38 Model 5382 System Units, and AS/400.

The 9331 Model 12 is a 5 1/4-inch diskette drive, also packaged in a stand-alone unit. The 5-1/4-inch diskette drive is used for data interchange with 5 1/4-inch based System/36 Model 5363 or 5364 and AS/400.

Remote Workstation Controllers

5251 Model 12

The 5251 Model 12 may be used to attach remote workstations. It is a workstation controller and communications unit for remote attachment of multiple display stations and printers. PC Support access by Personal Computers and Personal System/2s attached to the 5251 Model 12 will not be supported.

Note: Remote workstation controllers attach to the AS/400 via the communications subsystem features. The 5294 or the 5394 running in 5294 emulation mode, will not give IBM Personal Computers or Personal System/2s access to IBM PC Support/400.

The 5294 Remote Control Unit can be used to attach up to eight 5250 type displays, printers, IBM Personal Computers and Personal System/2s, and Personal System/55 (AP only), to an AS/400 via a communications link. The function provided will be equivalent to that available on the System/36 and System/38 with the exception that PC Support access by Personal Computers and Personal System/2s attached to the 5294 will not be supported.

The 5394 Remote Control Unit attaches up to sixteen 5250 type displays, printers, IBM Personal Computers and Personal System/2s, and Personal System/55 (AP only) to an AS/400 via a communications link. The function provided will be similar to that provided to the local workstations via the #6140 or #6040 local twinaxial workstation controllers.

5494 Remote Control Unit

The 5494 Remote Control Unit manages the operation of workstations and workstation communications to the AS/400. The IBM 5494-EXT replaces the IBM 5494-001 and the IBM 5494-002. The 5494 now has only one model, to which features are added customizing the 5494 for operational needs.

The 5494-EXT supports the attachment of up to 28 twinaxial devices. With the 5494 Twinaxial Expansion Kit installed, up to 56 twinaxial devices can communicate to the AS/400 through a Type 2.1 connection.

By installing the 5494 Token-Ring Adapter, the 5494-EXT has all the functional capabilities of the withdrawn 5494-002. It can communicate with an AS/400 system over a Token-Ring network while supporting up to 28 twinaxial devices, or can support Token-Ring attached devices while communicating with an AS/400 over an SDLC, X.21, or X.25 connection. In this configuration, the 5494 supports up to 80 devices of which up to 28 could be twinaxial attached and the rest Token-Ring attached.

The 5494 Ethernet Adapter supports IEEE 802.2 logical link control and IEEE 802.3 or DIX Version 2.0 frame format using a 10BASE2 (BNC), a 10BASE5 (15-pin D-SUB), or a 10BASE-T (RJ-45) connector. The 5494 Ethernet AUI Cable allows the attachment to an Ethernet Network using thick coaxial (10BASE5) cabling. Ethernet support allows the 5494 to be used as a gateway to an Ethernet LAN or attach to an AS/400 System via an Ethernet Network.

Non-IBM displays are supported only in U.S. English. A secondary keyboard mapping facility, like the 5208 Link Protocol Converter, is not available.

The ASCII Workstation Controller supports the following multilingual keyboards/character sets on the 316X and 3151 displays. The character sets are based on ISO standard 8859: Spanish, UK English, Italian, French, German, Canadian French, Belgian, Danish, Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian, Portuguese, Swiss French, and Swiss German. Of the above keyboard/character sets, the 3163 and 3264 do not offer ISO 8859 support of Spanish, UK English, Italian, French, German, and Canadian French. For these 3163 and 3164 keyboard/character sets, the ASCII Workstation Controller supports the national character set code pages that use character set ISO 646 with the addition of national characters as supported on these displays. ISO 8859 support for French German, Italian, Spanish, and UK English requires a corresponding 3161 feature.

For the 3101-23 display, the following keyboard/character sets are supported: Canadian French, French, German, Italian, and United Kingdom. The ASCII code pages for each are the national code pages as supported by the IBM 3101-23.

The IBM 6250 X Terminal offers high-performance, local-area network (LAN)-attached X terminals that provide a low-cost, desk-top platform for connectivity to the AS/400* and UNIX based host platforms (such as the RS/6000*). The 6250 X Terminal supports multiple 5250 emulation sessions to one or more AS/400s using an X Windows interface. The X terminal can also access UNIX host applications using either the memory efficient 6250 Window manger or the industry standard Motif** Window Manager. Either window manager provides a superb graphics platform for applications in the X Window environment.

The 6250 X Terminal Family includes four models: color and monochrome Ethernet models and color and monochrome Token-Ring models. They come with a base of 4 MB of memory, expandable to 20 MB or 16 MB, depending on the model. The displays both have a resolution of 1024X768 and the color models support 256 colors.

The 6250 X Terminal requires one AS/400 on the LAN to have the IBM 6250 X Terminal Program for OS/400 (PRPQ 5799-QGP) installed. The X terminal down-loads the X window environment from the AS/400 and then can communicate with other hosts on the LAN.

The X terminals include an integrated, swivel display, keyboard, three button mouse and license to use the 6250 program. The X terminals have an easy to use setup menu for initial configuration and standard LAN connectors for the most popular Ethernet or Token-Ring connections.

IBM Personal Computer Support

The AS/400 supports the IBM Personal Computer, Models 5150, 5160, 5162, and 5170, as described in programming announcement letters dated February 3, 1987 and January 26, 1988.

Personal System/2 Support

The AS/400 supports the IBM Personal System/2 models and the IBM Personal Typing System. For information regarding attachment of specific Personal System/2 models refer to the model Sales Manual description under "List of Supported Products" for AS/400 attachment hardware and under "IBM Software Compatibility" for supported AS/400 software.

LAN-attached ASCII Printers

IBM and non-IBM ASCII printers can be attached directly to the AS/400 via a LAN connection using the IBM 4033 LAN connection product. Ethernet and Token-ring connections are supported. The ASCII printers that are supported thru this attachment method are the same printers supported using the OS/400 Host Print Transform function. Refer to the previous charts for a list of IBM and non-IBM ASCII printers supported with the Host Print Transform function.

The IBM 4039 LaserPrinter can also be attached directly to the AS/400 via a LAN network connection using the 4039 integrated network adapter option.

LAN-attached IPDS Printers

The following AFP-capable IBM Page Printers are supported on Token-Ring and SDLC as specified. The Print Services Facility/400 (PSF/400) feature of OS/400 Version 3 Release 1 is required for the attachment of these printers.

Miscellaneous Devices

2480 AS/400 Wireless Access Point

These compact, lightweight devices act as either wireless LAN bridges or wireless LAN repeaters which support transparent roaming through a multi-cell network. Two models of the AS/400 Wireless Access Point are supported:

·         2480 Model RS0, AS/400 Wireless RS-485 LAN Access Point. This device is used with the AS/400 Wireless LAN Adapter to create a multi-cell wireless network. These access points may connect to the AS/400 Wireless LAN Adapter through an RS-485 twisted-pair wired backbone or without wire using the RF network. The 2480 Model RS0 is supported on AS/400 Advanced Systems with an AS/400 Wireless LAN Adapter (#2668)

4754 Security Interface Unit (SIU)

The 4754 Security Interface Unit (SIU) is an optional device that attaches to the Cryptographic Processor features #2620 or #2628. The 4754 provides the ability to communicate with the IBM Personal Security Card for highly secure importation of cryptographic keys into the Cryptographic Processor. The 4754 may also be used for initialization of the Cryptographic Processor. The 4754 SIU has tamper-resistant packaging. Three IBM Personal Security Cards are included with each 4754. The 4754 must be ordered separately from the Cryptographic Processor feature.

Software support for the 4754 is provided by OS/400 and the IBM Common Cryptographic Architecture Security Services/400 PRPQ (5799-XBY).

5159 Programmable I/O Controller

The 5159 Programmable I/O Controller is an asynchronous communication controller that performs computer processing and data transfer between an AS/400 and downstream asynchronous devices. These devices include but are not limited to time clocks, scales, badge readers, scanners, robots, bar code readers. The 5159 attaches locally to any AS/400 communication port configured for asynchronous communications. The asynchronous devices may attach locally or remotely under the control of user programs. Remote devices may require the use of asynchronous modems to connect to the 5159.

5259 Migration Data Link

The 5259 Migration Data Link is a stand-alone device that offers a cabled data path between the IBM System/36 or System/38 and the IBM AS/400 system. Systems are connected through their respective workstation controllers.

The Migration Data Link, together with programming support provided by the IBM AS/400 System/36 Migration Aid (5727-MG1) or the IBM AS/400 System/38 Migration Aid (5714-MG1) and the IBM Operating System/400, provides for data send/receive functions between systems. In addition, the Migration Data Link provides access between systems by providing hot key availability from up to seven workstations per Migration Data Link.

Upgrade Considerations

Some AS/400 9404 or 9406 systems may be upgraded to AS/400 Advanced System models with PowerPC AS microprocessors. Both the 9404 and 9406 maintain the machine type number designation and serial number when converting to the new 5X0 models. These upgrades require the replacement of the system unit and some of the features. Much of the your investment in hardware and software is preserved in the move to the new, advanced design hardware.

System upgrades involve substantial change to an installed system. Accounting and tax implications may result and should be reviewed by a tax advisor.

Net-priced main storage feature exchanges will be offered within COMPATIBLE features when needed to increase system main storage capacity. When model or processor conversions result in INCOMPATIBLE main storage features, exchanges to equal or greater capacity in megabytes of feature main storage will be offered. Net-priced exchanges will NOT be offered when upgrading to the AS/400 Advanced System Model 400.

ONLY IBM-manufactured main storage memory cards are eligible for feature exchange. Parts removed as part of a net-priced feature exchange transaction must be returned to IBM.

All I/O supported in 3XX models is also supported on AS/400 Advanced Systems with PowerPC AS microprocessors (models 400, 500, 510 and 530). Most I/O supported on the F models is also supported on the new models, with the exception of some old technology devices and Version 1 Hardware Cards (i.e.,B models). I/O features that are not supported remain the property of the customer. Refer to the Optional Features section for features that migrate.

The following E and F model features and devices are not supported when upgrading to a 5XX model.

Upgrades to AS/400 Advanced Systems (Models 400, 500, 510, 530)

Upgrading to an AS/400 Advanced System with a PowerPC AS microprocessor, requires advance planning by marketing, business partners, service and customer personnel.

New services are available from IBM to help you perform your upgrade responsibilities. Contact your IBM representative for services available. Additional detail information is provided in:

Consider the following before you upgrade:

·         The amount of memory and DASD space required will increase when moving to AS/400 Advanced System (Models 400, 500, 510, 530).

·         Internal Tape and DASD Conversion

When migrating 9404 or 9406 E and F models or Model 300 with feature #9142, internal tape and DASD features must be converted, for a charge, using a feature migration kit. Refer to the Optional Feature section for features that require a migration kit.

The following racks are supported on AS/400 Advanced System RISC models:

1.      9309-9141: General Purpose Rack without SPCN (stage 1)

2.      9309-9171: General Purpose Rack with SPCN (stage 2)

3.      #5040: Model D/E/F Bus Extension Unit (converted to #5044) (For IBM US, No Longer Available as of July 1, 1997)

4.      #5042: Model D/E/F System Unit Expansion (converted to #5044)

5.      #5043: Converted System Unit (equivalent to 9309-9171)

Older 9309-type racks can be converted to one of the supported racks.

9309-9141 racks cannot attach to the system units power control interface. They can, however, attach to any of the other supported rack types, or can be converted to a 9309-9171 via RPQ 843849. If the rack is to be used to house tape or diskette devices only, and manual power control is acceptable, a wrap connector (PN 31F7631) is available. The use of this wrap connector is not allowed for racks containing DASD.

AS/400 units with PowerPC AS microprocessors use a substantially faster bus, which requires all existing towers or racks to have their bus controller converted to the faster bus controller, for a charge, using a feature conversion.

When converting to the new systems, existing data on the system is preserved and a save/restore is not required unless data is resident on DASD devices no longer supported. In these cases, a save/restore can migrate the data, or new DASD can be purchased and installed on the existing system; and then data can be transferred.

AS/400 System Installation and Upgrade Services

Moving to AS/400 Advanced Series requires careful planning prior to upgrading the hardware and software. Several different approaches are available to address varying customer upgrade requirements, and IBM fee services are available to perform part or all of the upgrade process, including upgrading from releases prior to Version 2 Release 3.

Hardware Requirements

The minimum system configuration consists of a system unit and a system console.

The system requires AS/400 Licensed Internal Code. The Licensed Internal Code is pre-loaded on the system disk storage unit.

The system console may be any supported display or IBM compatible personal computer emulating a supported display. A Macintosh personal computer attached to the Workstation Adapter can also serve as the system console. The system console should be located within 6 meters (20 feet) of the operator's panel, and the operator's panel must be viewable from the display.

Although a printer is not required for service, IBM's ability to diagnose the system and perform upgrades is greatly enhanced when a printer is available.

Although not required for hardware service, IBM's ability to service the system is greatly enhanced when a voice telephone is available within view of the system. The telephone must not be connected to phone mail or an answering machine, since the ability to receive calls on this telephone is important in the event support personnel need to reach the IBM representative. This telephone line is in addition to the one needed for electronic customer support.

An IBM 7855 or equivalent modem is required for Electronic Customer Support (ECS).

Software Requirements

AS/400 Advanced System Models 500, 510, and 530 require the support of OS/400 Version 3 Release 6, or later.

Migration Feature Codes

(#0200) Replacing the Release:   (For IBM US, No Longer Available as of May 31, 1999)

This no-charge specify code denotes the upgrade will be done via the Replacing the Release method. This upgrade method may be used for upgrading systems running OS/400 V2R3 through V3R1. The Replacing the Release method is based on user objects remaining on the DASD units throughout the upgrade process. All supported DASD units are retained in the upgrade to the V3R6 system. Prior to upgrading the hardware, the Disk Preparation Utility must be run to prepare the DASD units on the prior release system for the new 4KB page size. All necessary object conversions are done by the system as part of the upgrade. This is the preferred approach for larger systems when all DASD units will be moved to the V3R6 system. Replacing the release reduces potential problems caused by save/restore and tape handling. It is the method most commonly used by AS/400 customers.

(#0201) Unload/Reload:   (For IBM US, No Longer Available as of May 31, 1999)

This no-charge specify code denotes the upgrade will be done via the Unload/Reload upgrade method. This method consists of unloading user applications and data to tape, upgrading the hardware, installing OS/400 V3R6, and reloading the user applications and data. This approach is attractive for smaller systems, and reduces upgrade time compared to replacing the release. It may also be an effective method for upgrading common programs and files on multiple systems.

(#0202) Staged Upgrade Offering:   (For IBM US, No Longer Available as of May 31, 1999)

This priced option provides an upgrade alternative that allows a customer to use the upgrade hardware for a limited period of time to translate and validate user applications prior to the actual upgrade. This option is available using either #0200 (Replacing the Release) or #0201 (Unload/Reload) methods. This priced offering requires careful advance planning. AS/400 Roadmap for Changing to PowerPC Technology (SA41-4150) describes this offering in detail. IBM services are also available for a charge. This feature is not available for the Model 400.

(#0203) Side-by-Side Install:   This no-charge specify code is used to alert IBM service representatives of the intention to install a new system concurrently with an existing system, and over time, move applications to the new system. This method may be used when adding a system to an existing complex or network, or when a replaced system is being moved to another location. AS/400 Roadmap for Changing to PowerPC Technology (SA41-4150) describes this option in detail. IBM services are also available for a charge.

(#0204) Staged Side by Side Upgrade:   (For IBM US, No Longer Available as of May 31, 1999)

This is a no-charge specify code denoting that the Staged Side-by-Side Upgrade method will be used. Feature #0202 (Staged Upgrade Offering) is a prerequisite on the order and provides a base functional RISC system that will be required to translate and validate user applications prior to the actual upgrade. #0204 indicates that the customer will be purchasing enough disk storage (and other features if necessary) to completely duplicate the disk storage of their production IMPI machine. #0204 also indicates that the upgrade will be performed using a method similar to the Side-by-Side Install method (#0203). This offering requires careful advanced planning. AS400 Roadmap for Changing to PowerPC Technology (SA41-4150-02) describes this offering in detail. IBM services are also available for a charge. This feature is available on Models 500/510/530.

When added to an initial order, this specify code will cause the order to fail if sufficient DASD is not ordered to support device level mirrored protection. When added to an initial order, this specify code will cause the order to fail if sufficient DASD and IOPs are not included on the order to support IOP level mirrored protection. On Upgrade orders, a warning message will be generated during installation of the upgrade if sufficient DASD devices, controllers and IOPs are not available to support IOP level protection across the system (except internal DASD).

When added to an initial order, this specify code will cause the order to fail if sufficient DASD, IOPs and System Unit Expansions are not included on the order to support BUS level mirrored protection. Migrated Disk Unit Specify Code

#2673 is a feature on model 530 which allows for the addition of up to three optical link processors. The optical link processors (#2686 and #2688) can be added in any combination as long as the total doesn't exceed three. #9673 is a base feature on model 530. One #9673 is required on new orders and on upgrades to model 530. Maximum: One #9673. Two #2673.

#2674 is a feature on models 500 and 510 which allows for the addition of up to three optical link processors (#2686). I/O Card slots used: One. Maximum: One.

Feature #2686 is used for adding up to two optical busses. #2686 can be used to attach up to two #5070s or #5080s or one #5044. The prerequisite for adding #2686 is #2673, #2674 or #9673. I/O card slots used: None. Maximum: Three for models 500 and 510, and nine for model 530.

(#2688) Optical Link Processor (1063Mbps):   Feature #2688 is used for adding up to two optical busses. #2688 can be used to attach up to two #5072s or #5082s. The prerequisite for adding #2688 is #2673 or #9673. I/O card slots used: None. Maximum: Nine.

(#5043) Primary to Secondary Rack:   (For IBM US, No Longer Available as of March 31, 1999)

This feature, available for customers upgrading from 9406 D, E, and F models to Models 500, 510, and 530, provides for the conversion of the rack housing the 9406 D, E or F model CEC to a 9309 #9171 "type" rack. This new rack will carry the feature code #5043. It is required for customers who have rack mounted devices and no rack to put them in and customers who want to migrate V1 racks and do not have a V2 rack for power control.

(#5044) System Unit Expansion Rack:   (For IBM US, No Longer Available as of March 31, 1999)

The System Unit Expansion Rack is a 12-slot card cage in a rack enclosure with fiber optic cable and an optical bus receiver card. Each unit provides two additional I/O busses to the System Unit with six I/O feature card slots per bus.

The #5044 is not orderable as a new feature on Models 500, 510, and 530, but is obtained as a feature conversion of feature #5042.

Expansion tower storage expansion unit usage: The configurator will specify either #5052 or #5058. When there is a choice, #5058 must be specified before #5052.

This expansion tower includes 13 feature slots, space for four removable media devices (#2624, Storage Device Controller, is required as a prerequisite), one battery backup (#9245), one 400 watt base power supply (#9240), one 400 watt power supply (#9243) for availability, two I/O regulators and disk unit features using #5052. The line cord supplied will be the same as specified for the system unit (see the description for #2960 and #2961). #5072 is the default on Model 530. #5082 can be specified as an alternative to #5072 if you need additional disk units and don't need additional I/O cards. #5073 is used on Model 530 for adding I/O cards and disk units (#5058 required when adding disk units). #5073 includes a 1063 Mbps optical bus card, various cables (including an optical cable) and the I/O tower. The I/O tower includes 13 feature slots, space for four removable media devices (#2624 or #6513 required as a prerequisite), one battery backup, one 400-watt base power supply, two 500-watt power supplies, two I/O regulators, and disk units using #5058.

The line cord supplied will be 220V only (no specify code is required). The length and plug type will be specified using #9080, #9082 and #9083.

Prerequisites: #2688 and #2695 or #2688 and an open IOA slot on the base optical bus adapter.

#5073 will be specified by the configurator based on I/O card requirements. #5073 and #5058 must appear on the extra controllers screen as an alternative to #5083.

The two feature slots can only be used for adding disk unit controllers (#6502, #6512 or #6530).

#5082 can be specified as an alternative to #5072 when adding additional disk units to the AS/400. #5072 is the default for Model 530. The line cord supplied will be the same as specified for the system unit.

Some of the C thru F Model internal disk units can be upgraded for use in the AS/400 Advanced Series models. Disk Unit Feature Conversions

When converting to a Model 4XX or 5XX, disk units located in the system unit must be converted or removed. The following is a list of the conversions that are available:

A Multi-Function I/O Processor (MFIOP) is included in the base system unit. It controls up to four internal disk units on all models.

(#6512) Disk Unit Controller for RAID:   (For IBM US, No Longer Available as of June 30, 2000)

Feature #6512, available on Models 500, 510, and 530, provides RAID-5 protection for internal disk units and includes a 4 MB write-cache. The #6512 is designed to control disk units installed in the Storage Expansion Units (#5051/5052/8052/9051) and Storage Expansion Towers (#5080/#5082). In addition to providing RAID-5 protection for disks, #6512 is also designed to work as a high performance controller for disks protected by system mirroring or disks with no protection. In the RAID-5 configuration, disk unit protection is provided at less cost than mirroring, and with greater performance than system checksums. #6512 offers greater performance than #6502 and #6530.

The #6512 provides a 4 MB write-cache, faster microprocessor and memory for increased performance compared with the 2MB write-cache #6502 disk unit controller. The #6502 is supported but not orderable on 5XX models. Customers upgrading to 5XX models can migrate their existing #6502 Disk Unit Controllers. System performance may vary depending on the configuration and applications. Customers should determine their individual performance needs to ensure that the current #6502 meets their performance expectations.

The controller supports a maximum of 16 drives. A minimum of four drives of the same capacity are needed for a valid configuration using the RAID 5 disk unit controller. A maximum of two arrays are allowed per controller, with a maximum of ten drives allowed per array. All drives in an array must be of the same capacity. Parity is spread across four drives for arrays of four to seven drives. Parity can be spread across either four or eight drives for arrays of eight to ten drives. For systems started with eight to ten drives in an array the parity, for that array, will be spread across eight drives. For systems that are started with less than eight drives in an array and later upgraded to eight, nine, or ten drives, the raid function must be stopped and then started before the parity will be spread across 8 drives.

Maximum: 13 on Models 500, and 510, and 37 on Model 530.

One #5058 or #5083 is required to support disk units when using #6532. #5052 or #5082 can also be used to support disk units but Ultra SCSI disks will be limited to Fast Wide SCSI speeds.

For the best performance use disks, disk controllers and storage expansion devices that are capable of Ultra SCSI performance.

The #6533 is an Ultra SCSI controller with a 4MB write-cache that provides RAID-5 protection for internal disk units.

This controller is disk compression enabled. Refer to the Product Preview in Hardware Announcement 198-023, dated February 10, 1998, for more information.

The #6533 controls Ultra, Fast Wide and Fast Narrow SCSI disk units installed in the Storage Expansion Units (#5058), Storage Expansion Towers (#5083) and System Unit Expansion #5064/#9364 with Expansion Unit for SPD Cards #9331. The #6533 also controls Ultra, Fast Wide and Fast Narrow SCSI disk units installed in the Storage Expansion Units (#5052) and Storage Expansion Towers (#5082), which due to hardware limitations, those disks will be controlled at Fast Wide and Fast Narrow speeds. For the best performance use disks, disk controllers and storage expansion devices capable of Ultra SCSI performance.

Tape Features

Internal Tape and CD-ROM Devices and IOPS

The system and expansion towers accommodate internal 1/4-inch tape, 8mm tape and CD-ROM. All devices are controlled by the system MFIOP or the storage device controller (#2624).

Code Distribution, Save/Restore and Alternate IPL (AIPL)

Code for AS/400 release V3R6 will be distributed on CD-ROM media. The configurator will select one CD-ROM device (#9520) during the order process.

The configurator will verify that a tape or migrated tape specify has been selected otherwise the order will fail with a message explaining that without a tape device the save/restore capability of the system is jeopardized.

In order to ensure that the system has AIPL capability, the configurator will also validate that the system has an alternate IPL specify code.

(#6335) 840 MB QIC Mini Tape Unit:   The 840 MB QIC Mini Tape Unit is a feature for AS/400 Advanced Series system units and expansion units. It provides a lower priced alternative, and a convenient, smaller sized tape cartridge than the traditional QIC devices. It can be used for save/restore, migration and data interchange. Using the QIC-3040-MC recording format, tape cartridge capacity is 840 MB. With hardware data compression, maximum tape cartridge capacity is up to 1.6 GB. Sustained data transfer rate is 300 KBps. Feature #6335 can be mounted in the system unit and in expansion features #7117/#9117 (4XX models) and #5070/#5072 (5XX models). Attachment is with the MFIOP in system units. System expansion unit attachment is via feature #2624.

(#6380) 2.5 GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape Unit:   (For IBM US, No Longer Available as of June 30, 2000)

The 2.5 GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape Unit is an optional feature that provides read/write compatibility through all supported AS/400 1/4-Inch Cartridge (QIC) tape formats, meeting AS/400 customer needs for compatible QIC media interchange.

The 2.5 GB 1/4-inch Cartridge Tape Unit supports the following media and formats:

The 2.5 GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape Unit has an effective data rate of 300 Kbytes per second when operating in the QIC-2GB or QIC-1000 format, 200K bytes per second when operating in the QIC-525 format and 120K bytes per second when operating in the QIC-120 format.

Feature #6380 can be mounted in the system unit or in expansion features #7117/#9117 (4XX models) and #5070/#5072 (5XX models). It may be used for save/restore, alternate IPL, program distribution, migration and 1/4-Inch Cartridge tape exchange. Hardware data compression (HDC) is supported.

(#6385) 13GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape Unit:   (For IBM US, No Longer Available as of May 31, 2000)

The 13GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape Unit is an optional 9406 feature that increases the performance and capacity of the 1/4-inch Cartridge (QIC) technology when writing or reading data cartridges in the new QIC-5010 format. This significantly reduces the time required to do save operations, while increasing the unattended save capacity for one QIC cartridge.

Read/write compatibility is provided for all supported AS/400 (QIC) tape formats. Maximum native capacity is 13GB uncompacted, and average capacity is 26GB using LZ1 compaction. The effective data rate is 1.5 MB/sec native, and with LZ1 compaction, average effective data rate is 3MB/sec. Tape retensioning is performed on an as required bases, further decreasing the time required to read or write a tape.

Tape tensioning control improvements in the tape unit will eliminate the need for an auto-retension pass during the data cartridge insertion/load sequence. An auto-retension pass, during cartridge load, is required to maintain correct tape tension in earlier 1/4-inch cartridge tape units, and can take up to five minutes. The #6385 tape unit will retension the data cartridge only when a loss of tape tension is detected (conditional retensioning). For typical operating conditions, retensioning of the data cartridge will be very infrequent.

The 13GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape Unit can be used for save/restore, alternate IPL, program distribution, migration and 1/4-inch cartridge tape interchange. This tape drive can be mounted in system or expansion unit, and attaches to the Internal Tape Device Controller (#6513). This feature is available on Models 500/510/530. OS/400 V3R7 is required.

(#6390) 7GB 8mm Cartridge Tape Unit:   The 7GB 8mm Cartridge Tape Unit is a helical scan, high capacity, streaming tape drive with a sustained data transfer rate of 500 KB per second. The tape unit includes data compression hardware using an adaptation of IBM's IDRC algorithm which provides an effective capacity of up to 14 GB per cartridge and an effective transfer rate of 1 MB per second, depending on the type of data transferred. Error Correction Code (ECC) is used to maintain data integrity.

The 7 GB 8mm Cartridge Tape Unit uses the same media and cleaning cartridge as the 7208 Models 2 and 12. Full interchange of data is supported with the 7208 Models 2 and 12 on the AS/400 9402, 9404, and 9406 using the proper tape density.

Feature #6390 can be mounted in the system unit or in expansion features #7117/#9117 (4XX models) and #5070/#5072 (5XX models). It may be used for save/restore, alternate IPL, program distribution, migration and 8mm cartridge tape exchange. Hardware data compression (HDC) is supported.

(#9520) Base CD-ROM:   The IBM 4X CD-ROM drive is a 600 KB/sec internal CD-ROM drive feature used for code distribution on the new AS/400 systems. #9520 is included in the base on new system and MES upgrades to the AS/400 Advanced Series models. Maximum: One.

Tape Unit Migration Kits

1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape Units as identified below can be upgraded for use with the AS/400 Advanced Series models. Each kit feature code identified includes the hardware that must be ordered to allow physical installation of the tape device in the AS/400 Advanced Series model. Included in the base of each system unit is a Multi-Function I/O Processor (MFIOP). It controls the CD-ROM (#9520) and one tape device. Additional tape controllers may be selected.

The #2624 is capable of controlling all supported internal tape devices. When used in the system units the #2624 controls two internal tape devices. When used in the expansion towers the #2624 controls up to three internal tape devices

#6146 (Diskette Adapter) may be added to any #2624 for the purpose of controlling an external diskette. The addition of #6146 to #2624 does not reduce the #2624s ability to control internal tape. In addition, #6146 and #2624 can be used for the sole purpose of controlling external diskette when no internal tape is present. For more information see the description of feature #6146.

(#6054, #9054) Workstation Adapter:   The LocalTalk workstation adapter provides LocalTalk network support for up to 31 devices. Devices include Macintosh Personal computers, Macintosh printers and LocalTalk compatible devices. Although the Adapter will physically connect up to 31 devices, the recommended performance limitation is 20 active sessions.

When LocalTalk is specified as the system console the #9054/#6054 is attached to the MFIOP (#9162 or #9163). All other LocalTalk controllers are attached to #2623 six line communication controllers. When the #6054 is attached to the #2623 only one other adapter (X.21, EIA 232/V.24 or V.35) is allowed and the third adapter slot must be unused.

Note: LocalTalk workstations are not supported on the MFIOP on the Model 53S. When #9054 or #6054 is specified, #2623 (Six-Line Communications Controller) is required as a prerequisite and #9162/#8162 (MFIOP w/Twinaxial WSC) is not allowed.

The Twinaxial Workstation IOA provides support for 40 5250 type displays or printers. It supports the 5250 Express Data Stream which provides enhanced twinaxial device throughput to supported devices. One #6180 is allowed in slot C of the MFIOP unless the system console is ASCII. All other Twinaxial Workstation IOAs must be placed into #2629s.

#9280 is specified on new orders by the configurator when a twinaxial workstation is required and an ASCII workstation controller is not specified. #6180 is specified for the twinaxial workstation controller if the customer requires both a twinaxial workstation controller and an ASCII workstation controller. #9280 and #6180 require V4R1. Includes 20-foot attachment cable/8-port breakout box.

An MFIOP comes standard on 9404 and 9406 systems. Depending on the system console specify and the additional workstations on the initial order #9162 or #9163 may be specified. #9162 provides support for 40 5250 type displays or printers and provides support for a twinaxial system console. #9162 also supports one #6054 or #9054 thus overriding the twinaxial system console to become a LocalTalk system console. LocalTalk is not allowed on #9162/#8162 when used on the Model 530. See description for #6052/#9054. In addition, the #6054 or #9054 controls up to 30 additional LocalTalk devices. If #2612 or #9612 and the appropriate cable (#9026 or #9027) are installed #9162 controls the system console via the EIA 232 communications adapter.

#9162 is a no-charge specify used when a twinaxial workstation controller is required on the order.

#9149 is attached to #9162 when diskette is not required. When diskette is required #9149 is replaced by #6147.

#9162 replaces #9152 on AS/400 Advanced Series model upgrades. #9163 replaces #9153 on AS/400 Advanced Series model upgrades.

An MFIOP comes standard on 9404 and 9406 systems. Depending on the system console and the additional workstations on the initial order #9163 or #9162 may be specified (see New Order Requirements description in this section). By itself, #9163 does not control any workstations. When one #6054 or #9054 is attached #9163 controls a local talk system console. LocalTalk is not allowed on #9163 when used on the Model 530. See description for #6052/#9054. In addition, the #6054 or #9054 controls up to 30 additional LocalTalk devices. The Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 Adapter/HP provides a single attachment to one Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Detect Local Area Network.

The feature consists of an adapter card and internal code which supplies Ethernet version 2 and IEEE 802.3 Media Access Control (MAC) plus IEEE 802.2 Logical Link Control (LLC) functions.

Cables: The FDDI Adapter requires multi-mode (62.5/125 micron) FDDI optical fiber jumper cables to connect the adapter into the FDDI ring. These jumper cables are not provided with this feature. The feature consists of an adapter card, internal code which supplies IEEE 802.5 Media Access Control (MAC) and IEEE 802.2 Logical Link Control (LLC) functions, and an external 2.44 meter (8 foot) cable. The standard IBM Cabling System patch cables can increase the length where necessary.

OS/400 configuration parameters are used to select either the 16 or 4Mbps rate. Early token release can be enabled or disabled when the 16Mbps rate is selected. These controls allow the customer to easily migrate from a 4 to a 16Mbps Token-Ring Network.

(#2668) AS/400 Wireless LAN Adapter:   (For IBM US, No Longer Available as of August 31, 1998)

The AS/400 Wireless LAN Adapter provides wireless connectivity from AS/400 systems to workstations or other systems connected to a wireless LAN network. With a wireless LAN connection, end-users can have roaming, portable access to the information they need, wherever they are, within the area of local wireless radio coverage. In addition, the AS/400 Wireless LAN Adapter may be the preferred solution in situations where wiring is expensive or impossible or where computing resource and device layouts change periodically. Support is provided for portable and stationary PCs, for specialized hand-held devices used for data collection, and for connections between AS/400 systems.

The AS/400 Wireless LAN Adapter uses an advanced technology, direct sequence, spread-spectrum radio operating in the 2.4 to 2.4835GHz band. The operating band may be different in some countries to meet country regulations. Spread spectrum provides excellent resistance to interference from other radio frequency (RF) sources.

Availability of this feature in any particular country is dependent on current country radio frequency regulations and certification for use by the country.

The AS/400 Wireless LAN Adapter comes with an antenna and a cable for connecting the antenna to the adapter. The area of coverage may be extended beyond the coverage provided by the antenna attached to the adapter by adding AS/400 Wireless LAN Access Points to the network via an unshielded twisted-pair wired backbone. In addition, access points may be connected without wires, acting as wireless repeaters. Each adapter or access point generates one cell of coverage area. Networks are designed to create overlapping cells to ensure consistent coverage of the area desired. The AS/400 Wireless LAN Adapter allows transparent seamless movement from cell to cell while maintaining a continuous host session.

The AS/400 Wireless LAN Adapter operates with existing application software interfaces. Existing 5250 and LAN-oriented applications can use the AS/400 Wireless LAN Adapter without change. When used with the Portable Transaction Computers application changes to address the smaller screen size of these devices may be desired.

The AS/400 Wireless LAN Adapter supports the AS/400 family of wireless LAN and data collection devices. This family of devices provides comprehensive connectivity solutions for attaching personal computers and data collection devices to the AS/400 in a mobile, wireless fashion. In addition to the AS/400 Wireless LAN Adapter, the following AS/400 wireless LAN networking devices are available from IBM:

The raw bit rate for the AS/400 Wireless LAN Adapter is 2Mbps, shared by all active devices in the network. The range covered by one cell in most office environments is from 100 to 300 feet in all directions, depending on the building structure, antenna type and antenna placement. Outdoors, with a clear line-of-sight between yagi antennas, a range of up to three miles may be achieved. The yagi antenna is available as a feature of the 2480 Access Points.

An IOA card and internal code supply IEEE 802.5 MAC and IEEE 802.2 LLC functions. The 16/4Mbps Token-Ring IOA can operate in half-or full-duplex mode.

#2724 includes a 2.44-meter (8-foot) token-ring cable. Alternatively, you can attach a separately purchased twisted-pair cable to the RJ45 connection on the IOA. The standard IBM Cabling System patch cables can increase the length where necessary.

#2811 is a 25Mbps ATM PCI card that allows the AS/400 to be attached into an ATM network using Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) cabling. #2811 is a good choice if you want the benefits from the scheduling, low- latency, and wide inter-connectivity of ATM, but do not require bit rates higher than 25Mbps. In addition, many buildings are already wired with UTP category 3 cabling. #2811 will typically be used where 25 Mbps speeds are required over distances of less than 100 meters.

This interface is intended primarily for direct connection to service provider equipment but can be used for local area switches. #2818 will typically be used where 155Mbps speeds are required over distances of from 16 km to 40 km.

#2819 is a 34Mbps ATM PCI card that allows the AS/400 to be attached into an ATM network using coax cabling and the E3 interface. #2819 is a good choice if you want more performance than available on the 25Mbps ATM but don't require the 155Mbps performance level. #2819 also has lower initial connection cost and lower ongoing tariffs. #2819 is typically used where 34Mbps speeds are required over distances of less than 137 meters. This feature may not be available in all countries.

(#2838) PCI 100/10Mbps Ethernet IOA:   The PCI 100/10Mbps Ethernet IOA feature will allow the AS/400 to attach to standardized 100Mbps high speed Ethernet LANs and also allow attachment to existing 10Mbps Ethernet LANs. The adapter comes with an RJ45 connector for attachment to UTP-5 media.

For each #2838 adapter used on the Integrated PC Server (#6617), a separate #0222 (100/10Mbps Ethernet on IPCS) no-charge specify code is required.

File Server I/O Processor (FSIOP)

The File Server I/O Processor, along with supporting AS/400 software, provides a high performance, client-centered file system. This file system provides access to client platforms such as OS/2, Windows and DOS attached to Token-Ring and Ethernet LANs. The file system can also be accessed by AS/400 host applications and provide LAN communications to AS/400 applications using TCP/IP and APPN.

The FSIOP can leverage OS/2 LAN server implementations to provide fast file serving performance on LANs. PC file serving performance on the AS/400 is increased up to eight times over previous AS/400 offerings.

The FSIOP consists of various initial order configurations that can be upgraded in the field using separate memory and second-port upgrade features. The following initial configuration features can be ordered:

The Integrated PC Server (#6617) is the next step in the evolution of the IBM's File Serving IOP (FSIOP) family. It includes a 200MHz Pentium Pro processor, four IOP memory slots, and three LAN IOA slots. #6617 comes with a special cable that converts the connector on the back of the card to industry-standard keyboard, mouse, serial and parallel connectors, for use with Windows NT Server.

Each IOP memory card slot can contain either a 32MB IOP memory card or a 128MB IOP memory card producing a total IOP memory capacity ranging from 32MB to 512MB. At least one memory card is required. Facsimile Feature

(#2664) Integrated Fax Adapter:   (For IBM US, No Longer Available as of December 31, 1999)

The Integrated Fax Adapter allows facsimile data to be entered, stored, retrieved, received and printed by the AS/400. Sending a FAX is as easy as printing or sending E-mail. This feature provides the AS/400 with two ports capable of transmission and receipt of facsimile data to or from a Group 3 capable fax machine, another AS/400 with an Integrated Fax Adapter, or PCs with appropriately programmed fax adapters. Feature #2664 consists of a card, a wrap cable (one per machine), two country- unique attachment couplers, telephone cables and Licensed Internal Code.

The Integrated Fax Adapter is supported by the Facsimile Support/400* licensed program offering that also supports a PS/2 LAN-based facsimile product. This program provides configuration parameters for the Integrated Fax Adapter, schedules fax transmissions between multiple adapters, and manages sending and receiving faxes to and from the adapter. The Integrated Fax Adapter and the PS/2 product can coexist. The Integrated Fax Adapter offers the advantages of being simpler to install, operate and manage since it is an integrated feature of the AS/400.

The Integrated Fax Adapter can simultaneously support two send, two receive, or one send and one receive operation. To the AS/400, the Integrated Fax Adapter appears as an IPDS* (Intelligent Printer Data Stream) printer for outbound faxes. Most output, including text, image, graphics and bar codes that can be printed on an AS/400 IPDS printer can be faxed via the Integrated Fax Adapter. Double Byte Character Sets (DBCS) are supported for in-bound faxes, but not for out-bound faxes.

Documents transmitted from the AS/400 through the Integrated Fax Adapter are limited to a maximum of approximately 30 text pages per port, per phone call. If two ports are configured for sending Fax documents and only one is being used, then the limit is raised to approximately 60 text pages. Resident cover pages are counted against this limit. A4, A3, and B4 page sizes are supported. The A3 page size is truncated to B4 on transmit.

The Integrated Fax Adapter is designed to be directly attached to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). Attachment to a Private Branch Exchange (PBX) may give unsatisfactory results.

Feature #2664 supports the facsimile protocols defined in CCITT Blue Book Volume VII, Fasicle VII.3 Recommendations T.4 and T.30.

Encryption Features

(#2620) Cryptographic Processor:   (For IBM US, No Longer Available as of December 31, 1999)

The Cryptographic Processor feature performs cryptographic functions based on a hardware implementation of the ANSI standard Data Encryption Standard (DES) and the RSA (Rivest-Shamir-Adleman) Public Key Algorithm (PKA). Cryptographic applications are a cost-effective way of providing confidentiality and/or authentication and integrity assurance for many forms of valuable data. This protection is especially important in networks, which may be vulnerable to unauthorized access to data and resources. Application areas include banking, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and protection of proprietary information such as engineering drawings, customer lists, product plans, and personnel records.

Functions provided include encryption and decryption of data, authentication and verification of messages and data, creation and management of financial personal identification numbers (PINs) and management of cryptographic keys. The Public Key Algorithm supports the generation and verification of digital signatures for applications requiring positive electronic authentication of the identity of the sender of a message. The PKA function also provides efficient distribution of encrypted DES cryptographic keys.

Control of the tamper-resistant cryptographic hardware is provided through the supporting PRPQs listed below and optionally, through IBM Personal Security Cards using the IBM 4754-001 Security Interface Unit. The cryptographic functions provided conform to the IBM Common Cryptographic Architecture, are compatible with the IBM Transaction Security System, and interoperate with most DES based cryptographic products including IBM cryptographic products on MVS, RS/6000 (WT only), OS/2, and DOS and the IBM Cryptographic Support/400 licensed program. Through its extensive use of industry standards, the cryptographic processor also interoperates with most other DES based cryptographic products.

This feature consists of an I/O processor card with a cable to attach a 4754-001, and a cable wrap connector (1 per system). The 4754-001, if desired, must be ordered separately.

Export authorization from the U.S. Government is required to ship this feature to countries outside the U.S. and Canada. Other countries may also regulate the export of this feature. Export licenses for feature #2620 will generally be approved for shipment to financial institutions and subsidiaries of U.S. companies. Export of feature #2628 may be approved in other cases. Check with your local export regulation coordinator for specific country requirements.

This feature requires the support of OS/400 Version 3 Release 6 and PRPQ 5799-FRF. Feature #2620 is not supported by IBM Cryptographic Support/400.

(#2628) Cryptographic Processor - Commercial:   (No Longer Available as of December 31, 1999)

This feature provides the same functions as feature #2620 except that the data confidentiality functions of encryption and decryption are provided using the new Commercial Data Masking Facility (CDMF) instead of the DES algorithm. CDMF is a new scrambling technique for data confidentiality and is intended as a substitute for the Data Encryption Standard (DES) in cryptographic products exported to customers who have heretofore been unable to receive DES-based products due to government regulations. Feature #2628 with CDMF will normally be available to most customers in most countries.

CDMF uses a 64 bit key, but provides the effective strength of a 40-bit DES key. Feature #2628 is fully compatible with feature #2620 with the exception of the encryption and decryption commands. Interoperability on masked data between an AS/400 with feature #2628 and an AS/400 with feature #2620 or other full DES systems is not supported.

Feature #2628 supports attachment of the 4754-L01 Security Interface Unit. This feature consists of an I/O processor card with a cable to attach a 4754-L01, and a cable wrap connector (1 per system). The 4754-L01, if desired, must be ordered separately.

This feature requires the support of OS/400 Version 3 Release 6 and PRPQ 5799-FRF. Feature #2628 is not supported by IBM Cryptographic Support/400.

Miscellaneous Features

(#0059) Transition Data Link:   (For IBM US, No Longer Available as of June 30, 2000)

The IBM Transition Data Link (TDL) feature offers a twinaxial cable data path between IBM twinaxial systems. The TDL allows for unattended migration of data from one system to another. The systems are connected via their respective local twinaxial workstation controllers. Data is transferred between the two systems at the system workstation controller data interchange speed which averages approximately 40MB/hour.
