Abstract

The IBM 9406 AS/400e SXX servers with the dynamic 64-bit PowerPC AS microprocessor, coupled with a generous amount of main storage, disk capacity, client support, feature card slots, and communications lines, you have what you need to help you maximize your gains from client/server computing.

Models S20, S30, and S40 custom mixed-mode e-servers can deliver increased interactive processing at a competitive price for mixed-workload environments. These specially balanced processors can be ordered only as components of an overall packaged solution. Vendor software purchased from ISV channels is preloaded (partial or total) or validated as part of the preparation before shipment. ISV software can also be preloaded on other e-servers.

Beginning with Version 4 Release 1, OS/400 is included in the price of AS/400e servers. A software order is required to record the OS/400 license included with these systems.

AS/400e servers are available in four models -- spanning 22 different processors. This assures you of considerable flexibility when matching system performance with your business needs as well as clearing a cost-efficient growth path for the future.

A wealth of mission-critical features are built in, making your e-server easier to manage and allowing it to work in multivendor environments.

The powerful DB2 for OS/400 is the most popular multi-user relational database management system (RDBMS) in the world. DB2 for OS/400 is ANSI 92 standards-compliant, guarantees conformance with IBM DATABASE 2 (DB2) family and SQL, and provides open environment functions that can interoperate with other industry-standard RDBMS.

Based on the PowerPC AS microprocessor, AS/400e servers deliver leadership performance and provide outstanding storage capability, with optional features available to grow the server with your business needs. OS/400 Version 4 contains server model enhancements which improve performance and simplify management in mixed environments.

Prior to Version 4, loading additional interactive work on a system resulted in a general system slowdown for both interactive and non-interactive work. With Version 4, the system automatically manages job priorities to ensure that non-interactive work is not impacted by interactive work. In environments where there is not significant interactive work, behavior is the same as it was prior to Version 4.

Operations Console

The AS/400 supports a new directly-attached, full-function 5250 PC console that includes a graphical control panel application. The user interface of the control panel application resembles its hardware counterpart. The console and control panel applications can be used together or separately, but each requires its own direct cable attachment to an AS/400 system. Each cable must be purchased separately from IBM for the AS/400 model being used. Both cables are only available in a single length of six meters.

The direct-attach console can also serve as a gateway for a dial-in remote console. The remote console can also be configured to run the 5250 emulator application and/or the graphical control panel application. Both applications enable you to perform the majority of system operations tasks, for example back-up and recovery, with the AS/400 systems and the operations staff in physically separate locations. The connection between the remote and direct-attach console uses Windows dial-up networking point-to-point protocol (PPP) with the direct-attach console employing Windows NT Remote Access Service (RAS) for access.

The applications are included on the Operations Navigator CD-ROM shipped with OS/400 V4R3. They are installed and used from PCs with Windows NT Workstation 4.0 (required for the direct-attach console when it serves as a remote console gateway) when remote PC access is desired or Windows 9X operating systems. The operations console application requires the appropriate operations console cable, based on the AS/400 model on which it will be used. The remote control panel application requires a remote control panel cable, also based on the AS/400 model. OS/400 V4R3 is always required for direct/remote 5250 console attachment, however the control panel application will function as a stand-alone application with any AS/400 Advanced Series or e-Series system.

EZ-Setup

EZ-Setup simplifies iSeries setup with a GUI and an easy-to-follow interface on your PC attached to an AS/400 via Op Console, or a LAN connection. EZ-Setup steps you through the setup process and minimize decisions where possible. EZ-Setup is delivered on the Setup and Operations CD shipped with the iSeries system hardware. The code runs on a PC under Windows 95/98/NT 4.0/2000.

AS/400e servers are best for workstation-centric computing needs where data, processing, and presentation are done by programmable workstations.

AS/400e systems are best for host-centric computing needs where data is stored and managed by a single system, application processing and screen processing are done by the same system, and screen information is sent to workstations to be displayed without further processing. The workstations can be non-programmable terminals or PCs running emulation programs.

Customer Setup (CSU)

Model S10 initial installation, and some designated features, are Customer Setup. Models S20, S30, and S40 initial installation and feature installation will be performed by IBM service representatives. Model upgrades on ALL models are performed by IBM service representatives.

The customer is responsible for installation of external cables, displays, printers, and modems. Customers who request IBM service personnel to perform these activities are subject to a charge.

Customer responsibilities include:

The VSS is a new external disk subsystem that attaches to the AS/400. You gain the flexibility of attaching to multiple heterogeneous servers. On the AS/400, up to 1TB of disk storage is supported in each VSS unit in a non-shared mode.

The VSS attaches to AS/400 via the Tape/Disk Device Controller (#6501). OS/400 V3R1, or later, is required (PTFs are also required).

Tape Devices

The following tape devices are supported:

·         3490E - 1/2 Inch Cartridge Tape Subsystem

o        Model C11/C1A/C22/C2A (withdrawn from marketing)

o        Model E01/E11 (withdrawn from marketing)

o        Model F00/F01/F11/F1A

The 3494 is a stand alone tape library. It consists of a frame and robotics designed to mount and automatically load tape drives. The 3494 attaches to the 9402/9404/9406 via an RS232, Token Ring or Ethernet connection that controls the library function. There are four models of the 3494 available as follows:

Note: The capacities shown for the number of devices that mount in the 3494 models are higher than an individual AS/400 can support; however, the 3494 can be attached to multiple systems at one time requiring the 3494 to have device limits higher than those of an individual AS/400.

The 9427 is an 8mm library that attaches to #2621. Following are the models supported.

Operating Environment

Note: (1) All tape media used on the 9406 have a relative humidity range of 20% to 80%.

Voltage:

Model S10 system units can operate at either low voltage (100-127 VAC) or high voltage (200-240 VAC). Models S20, S30, and S40 system units operate at high voltage. Expansion towers #5070, #5072, #5080, and #5082 can operate at either low voltage or high voltage. Expansion towers #9251, #5071, #5073, #5081, and #5083 operate at high voltage.

The appropriate system power cord is added automatically by the configurator based on the three-digit country code on the order. Refer to the "AS/400 Physical Planning Reference," (SA41-5109) for your default power cord, other power cord options, and additional technical planning information. For upgrades, consult SA41-5109. to make sure no changes to your power distribution system are required.

Limitations

Not applicable.

Hardware Requirements

The minimum operable and serviceable system configuration consists of a system unit and a system console.

The system requires AS/400 Licensed Internal Code. The Licensed Internal Code is preloaded on the system disk storage unit.

The system console may be any supported display or IBM-compatible personal computer emulating a supported display. The system console should be located within 6 meters (20 feet) of the operator's panel, and the operator's panel must be viewable from the display.

Although a printer is not required for service, IBM's ability to diagnose the system and perform upgrades is greatly enhanced when a printer is available.

Although not required for hardware service, IBM's ability to service the system is greatly enhanced when a voice telephone is available within view of the system. The telephone must not be connected to phone mail or an answering machine, since the ability to receive calls on this telephone is important in the event support personnel need to reach the IBM representative. This telephone line is in addition to the one needed for ECS.

A high-speed modem, IBM 7852 or equivalent, is required for ECS.

Software Requirements

AS/400e servers require the support of OS/400 V4R1, or later. Some features may require a later release of OS/400. Refer to individual feature descriptions.

Disk Protection

(#0040) Mirrored System Disk Level Protection

When added to an order, this specify code will cause the order to fail if sufficient disk units are not ordered to support device level mirrored protection. On upgrade orders, a warning message will be generated during installation of the upgrade if sufficient disk units are not available to support device level protection across the system.

#0040 requires all disk units to be placed into mirrored pairs. The load source must be controlled by the MFIOP and must be mirrored to a like disk unit also attached to the MFIOP. The minimum number of disks allowed on a system is two.

(#0042) Mirrored System IOP Level Protection

When added to an order, this specify code will cause the order to fail if sufficient disk units and IOPs are not included on the order to support IOP level mirrored protection. On upgrade orders, a warning message will be generated during installation of the upgrade if sufficient disk units and IOPs are not available to support IOP level protection across the system.

(#0043) Mirrored System BUS Level Protection

When added to an order, this specify code will cause the order to fail if sufficient disk units, IOPs and expansion units are not included on the order to support BUS level mirrored protection. On upgrade orders, a warning message will be generated during installation of the upgrade if sufficient disk units, IOPs and expansion units are not available to support bus level protection across the system.

#0043 requires all disk units to be placed into mirrored pairs. Each mirrored pair of disk units must be on separate SPD buses. The load source must be controlled by the MFIOP and must be mirrored to a like disk unit also attached to the MFIOP (#0040 protection). The minimum number of disks allowed on a system is four.

(#0044) Device Parity Protection

When added to an order, this specify code will cause the order to fail if a non-RAID configuration is ordered. This is the default specify code for data protection.

#0044 requires that all internal disk units be placed into RAID arrays using #2726, #2740, #2741, #6502, #6512, #6532, #6533, or #9751. The rules for RAID can be found in the descriptions of these features.

Ideally, all disk units should be put into a RAID array. However, for upgrades only, in order to maintain compatibility with upgrade systems that did not have the ability to put the load source file into a RAID array the marketing configurators will allow up to four non-RAID disks to be configured with #0044. The four non-RAID disks must be mirrored. The definition of a non-RAID disk is (1) an old disk that can't be put into a RAID array because it technically doesn't work or (2) a new disk that can't be put into a RAID array because there aren't enough disks for a valid RAID array.

Alternate IPL

Licensed Internal Code (LIC) for AS/400 e-series models will be distributed on CD-ROM media.

The configurator will verify that a tape or migrated tape specify has been selected. If not, the order will fail with a message explaining that without a tape device the save/restore capability of the system is jeopardized.

In order to ensure that availability of ALT-IPL capability, the configurator will validate that the system has an ALT-IPL specify code.

One of the following specify codes is required on a AS/400 systems to identify the alternate IPL device, otherwise base validation will fail. The alternate IPL specify code indicates that the IOP used to control the tape device must be placed into the system unit. Model S10 does not have an alternate IPL device.

(#5544) Sys Console on Op Console

Enables use of a PC as a remote system console and control panel. Operations Console Cable (#0328) is required to attach to the Base Multi-Protocol Communications Adapter (#9699). #9699 is installed in the MFIOP of the remote system. OS/400 V4R3, or later, is required. Remote control panel function is also available when #5544 is specified by ordering the Remote Control Panel Cable (#0380 or #0381). #5544 is the default for Models S30 and S40. Maximum: One.

System Install Method

(#0200) Replacing the Release Install

(For IBM US, No Longer Available as of May 31, 1999)

This no-charge specify code denotes that the upgrade will be done via the Replacing the Release Install method. This upgrade method may be used for upgrading systems running OS/400 V2R3 through V3R2. The Replacing the Release Install method is based on user objects remaining on the disk units throughout the upgrade process. All supported disk units are retained in the upgrade to the RISC system. Prior to upgrading the hardware, the Disk Preparation Utility must be run to prepare the disk units on the prior release system for the new 4KB page size. All necessary object conversions are done by the system as part of the upgrade. This is the preferred approach for larger systems when all disk units will be moved to the RISC system. The Replacing the Release Install method reduces potential problems caused by save/restore and tape handling. It is the method most commonly used by AS/400 customers.

(#0201) Unload/Reload Release Install

This no-charge specify code denotes the upgrade will be done via the Unload/Reload Release Install method. This method consists of unloading user applications and data to tape, upgrading the hardware to a Power PC system, installing OS/400, and reloading the user applications and data. This approach is attractive for smaller systems, and reduces upgrade time compared to replacing the release. It may also be an effective method for upgrading common programs and files on multiple systems. This feature is only allowed on IMPI to RISC upgrades.

(#0202) Staged Upgrade Offering

This priced option provides an upgrade option that uses the upgrade hardware components to translate and validate user applications prior to the actual upgrade, using either #0200 or #0201 methods. This priced offering requires careful advanced planning. AS400 Road Map for Changing to PowerPC Technology (SA41-4150) describes this offering in detail. IBM services are also available for a charge. This feature is only allowed on IMPI to RISC upgrades.

(#0203) Side by Side Install

This no-charge specify code is used to alert IBM service representatives of the intention to install a new system concurrently with an existing system, and over time, move applications to the new system. This method may be used when adding a system to an existing complex or network, or when a replaced system is being moved to another location. AS400 Road Map for Changing to PowerPC Technology (SA41-4150) describes this option in detail. IBM services are also available for a charge. #0203 is not allowed if #0400, #0420, #0430, or #5000 is on order.

(#0204) Staged Side by Side Upgrade

#0204 is a no-charge specify code denoting that the upgrade will be done via the Staged Side by Side Upgrade method. #0202 is required on the order and indicates that IBM will provide the base CEC required to translate and validate user applications prior to the actual upgrade. #0204 indicates that the customer will be purchasing enough disk storage (and other features if necessary) to completely duplicate the disk storage of their production IMPI machine. #0204 also indicates that the upgrade will be performed using a method similar to the Side by Side Install method (#0203). This offering requires careful advanced planning. AS400 Road Map for Changing to PowerPC Technology (SA41-4150) describes this offering in detail. IBM services are also available for a charge. Miscellaneous

(#0002) Customer Install MES

This feature is used to indicate that customer involvement is required to install this MES on the Model S10. The order configurators will place this specify on orders when required.

(#0003) Non-Customer Install MES

This feature is used to indicate that CE involvement is required to install this MES. This feature drives CE installation instructions, MES package labeling, and indicates that an IBM CE should be dispatched to install the MES.

(#0006) LPAR Restrict Build Process

Added to an initial order system where logical partitioning (LPAR)(#0140) is requested. This code instructs manufacturing to only load SLIC on the minimum number of DASD files (ie. do not spread across all available DASD units.

Mutually exclusive with #5000 SW Preload, or any Solution Developer Preloads.

Prerequisite: #0140 (Logical Partitioned System). Maximum: One.

(#0140) Logical Partitioned System

#0140 is specified to indicate the number of logical partitions desired for a system implementing logical partition (LPAR) support. For a system to use logical partitions, it must have a multi-processor (2-way, 4-way, 8-way, or 12-way). The following processors, by model, support logical partitions. The maximum number of logical partitions supported is shown in parenthesis following each processor.

If logical partitioning is designated, the configurator will request the total number of partitions desired on the system, including the primary partition. The valid number of #0140 specify codes is from two to 12. The configurator will then validate that the number of load source IOPs, and the total number of workstation controllers (adapters) and console cables are equal to the number of logical partitions specified.

The first time logical partitioning is designated, the configurator will default one #2624/#2748 controller for each feature CD-ROM specified, up to the maximum number of controllers per system. After reaching this controller maximum, additional feature CD-ROMs may be added. The defaulted #2624/#2748 controllers may be removed from the order if not needed.

(#0213) Development/Demonstration Discount Program

This feature is used to indicate that the system or feature being ordered qualifies for discount under the development discount program or the demonstration discount program.

(#0320) Luxembourg Specify

#0320 is used to enable correct ordering of modem and hardware for #2664. This feature may have country specific usage.

(#0321) Ireland Specify

(#9119) Migrated Disk Units

When #9119 is on an order the customer is assumed to have migrated (customer Sourced) disk units. Because the migrated disk units may not have been added to the system records manufacturing must not perform mirroring checks.

#9902 is added to an order by the configurator so that manufacturing does not integrate the device into a rack, etc. The device with #9902 must be shipped in its own packaging.

Special Feature Codes -- Chargeable

Features can be added and removed from AS/400 models. This is typically accomplished through three methods: Feature exchanges, feature conversions and straight add/removes.

Feature exchanges involve the sale of one or more parts and the return of one or more parts (unless otherwise noted). Feature exchanges are typically used for main storage transactions where a credit may be given for some exchanges on selected models, upon the return of installed IBM main storage cards.

Feature conversions are generated when it is necessary to change a feature number either as a result of physically modifying the feature, or as a result of updating the install record for a non-supported feature. In the case of physically modifying the feature, parts will be shipped and removed or replaced parts may or may not be returned. In the case where only records are being updated, no parts are sent.

The straight add or remove of a feature typically does not involve any credit. Unless otherwise specified, a removed feature remains the property of the customer.

System Configuration

All system units and expansion units have locations for features including processors, main storage, power, expansion, disks, tapes, CD-ROM, and IOPs. The configurator contains the rules and performance considerations for placement of these features, and should be used to ensure a valid configuration. The use of performance tools may also help in optimizing a configuration to match a specific set of requirements.

Customer-Installable Features

On Model S10, IBM will begin to deliver customer-installable features. This is in response to customer requests for more flexibility in system and MES installability. Future systems will be designed to further enable customer-installable features. On the Model S10, DASD, PCI features, and external cables will be customer installable.

On MES orders where all features are customer installable, the customer will install all features. On MES orders that contain mix of customer engineer (CE) and customer-installable features, if you so choose, the CE will install all features (including those designated as customer installable). IBM installation of orders containing all customer-installable features will be available via normal service contracts.

PCI Card Packaging

With Models S10 and S20, an industry-standard form factor known as Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) is introduced. In the future, it will allow AS/400 to choose from a wide range of devices that can be integrated into the system. The introduction of PCI technology to AS/400 packaging promotes the integration of new technologies for AS/400 applications.

#5143 is a 400-watt feature power supply that is a prerequisite to the installation of a #5052. #5143 can be installed in features #5072 or #5082.

#5143 can be installed in an expansion tower even though a #5052 may not be installed. This is useful when upgrading from a model that required #5143 in the system unit but that did not have a #5052 installed. If a #5143 is installed in this manner, a subsequent order for a #5052 will not require a new #5143. #5143 is available as an MES feature only. Prerequisite: #5072 or #5082 expansion unit. Maximum: One.

(#5150) Battery Backup (external)

#5150 is an external battery backup that when used in conjunction with the internal battery backup is capable of extending the continuously powered mainstore (CPM) time for all main storage sizes to at least 48 hours. Models S30 and S40 come with an internal battery backup that is capable of maintaining the CPM on 16GB of main storage for at least 24 hours. #5150 is required when the main storage size exceeds 16GB on the Models S30 and S40. #5150 can also be purchased for the purpose of increasing the CPM time over that of the internal battery backup.

(#5151) Power Supply (650 Watts)

#5151 is a 650-watt feature power supply that is a prerequisite to the installation of a #5055. #5151 is also required if five or more main storage cards are installed. Maximum: One on Models S30.

(#5153) Redundant Power Supplies

#5153 consists of two power supplies (845 watt and 650 watt). This feature provides redundancy for the power supplies in the system unit and the expansion unit. This feature physically resides in the #5064 System Unit Expansion.

Prerequisite: #5064. Not available on Model S20 processor #2161. Maximum: One.

Expansion Units

The design of the AS/400 allows for the addition of buses, card slots, and disk unit slots through a set of expansion features. On the Models S30 and S40 there is one new expansion tower, one new storage tower, and three new storage units. These new features have advanced function that takes advantage of Ultra SCSI disk units. The older towers (#5072 and #5082) will be supported but not orderable. The older storage unit (#5052) must continue to be offered for attachment to the older towers.

(#2683) 266Mbps OptiConnect Receiver

#2683 is an OptiConnect card used to attach a RISC satellite system to a hub system over optic cable up to two kilometers away. The hub system in the cluster can be either a RISC or IMPI system which has #5601 or #5602 installed, dedicating an I/O tower or frame, into which #2683 installs, for OptiConnect cluster use. The fiber optic cable operates at 266Mbps. #2683 is ordered via RPQ 843872. Models S20, S30, and S40.

(#2685) 1063Mbps OptiConnect Receiver

#2685 is an OptiConnect card used to attach a RISC satellite system to a hub system over optic cable up to 500 meters away. The hub system in the cluster can be either a RISC or IMPI system which has #5601 or #5602 installed, dedicating an I/O tower or frame, into which #2685 installs, for OptiConnect cluster use. The fiber optic cable operates at 1063Mbps. #2685 is ordered via RPQ 843873. Models S20, S30, and S40.

(#2686) Optical Link Processor (266Mbps)

Attaches the System Unit Expansion Rack (#5044). #2686 is also used in OptiConnected satellite systems to connect to hub systems at distances greater than 500m (up to 2km).

Prerequisites: An optical link processor (OLP) slot in the #9331 or #9329 expansion units on the Model S20, or in the #2695 Optical Bus Adapter, or system unit on Models S30 and S40. Each #5044 attached to the #2686 requires two optical cables. Card slots required: None. Maximum: Two.

(#2688) Optical Link Processor

#2688 is a feature for adding up to two optical buses. #2688 can be used to attach up to two #5072s, #5073s, #5082s or #5083s in any combination. The prerequisite for adding #2688 is #2695 or an open IOA slot in the system unit's base optical bus adapter. I/O card slots used: None. Maximum: Two on Model S20. Nine on Models S30 and S40.

Note: Three optical cables are required to attach two towers to a #2688. Each #2688 shipped should include two optical cables for attaching the first tower. The second tower shipped for a #2688 should include only one optical cable. The second tower will be attached in a ring with the first tower and the #2688.

(#2695) Optical Bus Adapter

#2695 is a feature on Models S30 and S40 which allows for the addition of up to three Optical Link Processors (#2686/#2688). I/O card slots used: One. Maximum: Two.

Installed on AS/400e Models S20, S30, and S40 for adding disk units, PCI adapter cards, and up to two removable media units. #5065 supports Ultra2 SCSI disk units.

#5065 includes a 1063Mbps optical bus card, cables (including an optical cable) and the Storage/PCI Expansion Tower. The Storage/PCI Expansion Tower includes:

The 12 PCI IOA slots are in groups of four slots. Each group of four slots is supported by a #2824 PCI/LAN/WAN/Workstation IOP. In each group of four slots, two slots are low speed PCI slots, one slot is a high-speed PCI slot and one slot is a high-speed PCI SCSI slot. One #2824 is included with the #5065; the second and third #2824s are optional.

The 45-disk unit positions are in groups of 15. Each group of 15 disk units is:

A mounting kit for the first 15 disk units is included in the #5065. A mounting kit for the next 30 disk units is optional; order #5101, the 30-Disk Expansion Feature.

#5065 can have up to three #2748 PCI RAID Disk Unit Controllers. They must be installed in the PCI SCSI card slots.

#5065 also supports up to two removable media devices (internal tape or CD-ROM). These devices are supported by the base #2748.

#2718 PCI Magnetic Media Controller and #2729 PCI Magnetic Media Controller may also be installed in the PCI SCSI card slots to support external tape devices.

(#5066) 1.8M I/O Tower

#5066 is used on Models S20, S30, and S40 for adding up to 90 disk units, up to 24 PCI IOAs, and up to four removable media units. #5066 supports Ultra and Ultra2 SCSI disk units. #5066 includes two 1063Mbps optical bus cards, various cables (including optical cables) and the 1.8m tower enclosure. The tower provides 24 PCI IOA slots, space for 90 disk units, space for four removable media devices, battery backup, redundant/hot-swap power supplies, and two PCI LAN/WAN/Workstation IOPs.

The 24 PCI IOA slots are in groups of four slots, with each group slots supported by a #2824 PCI/LAN/WAN/Workstation IOP. Two #2824s are included with #5066, the remaining four #2824s are features. In each group of four slots, two slots are low-speed, one slot is high-speed, and one is a high-speed or SCSI slot.

The 90 disk unit positions are in groups of 15, with each group requiring a #2748 Disk Unit Adapter. Up to six #2748 Disk Unit Adapters are supported in the #5066, each installed in a SCSI card slot. Each group of 15 disk units is further divided into three groups of five disk units, with each group of five disk units supported on a separate Ultra2 SCSI (LVD-SCSI) bus from the #2748.

The #5066 also supports up to four removable media devices (internal tape or CD-ROM). These removable media devices are controlled by the first #2748. The #2718 PCI Magnetic Media Controller and the #2729 PCI Magnetic Media Controller may also be installed in the PCI SCSI card slots to support external tape devices.

#5065 (Storage/PCI Expansion Tower) is the configurator default when a PCI IOP/IOA is ordered that requires a PCI expansion unit. #5066 may be specified on the extra controllers screen. For each #5066 ordered, a quantity of two #0565 (#5065 Equivalent) specify codes will be added to the order. If a #5066 is to be shared between two systems, one #0565 must be removed from the original ordering system and added to the sharing system, using an RPO (Record Purpose Only) change.

For Model S20, one Optical Link Processor (#2688) is required. Models S30 and S40 require the Optical Link Processor (#2688) and Optical Bus Adapter (#2695), or #2688 and an IOA slot on the base optical bus adapter. OS/400 V4R4, with PTF MF22587, or Cumulative (cum) PTF package C9229440, or later, is required.

(#5073) 1063Mbps System Unit Expansion Tower

#5073 is used on Models S20, S30, and S40 for adding I/O cards and disk units (#5058 required when adding disk units). #5073 includes a 1063 Mbps optical bus card, various cables (including an optical cable) and the I/O tower. The I/O tower includes 13 feature slots, space for four removable media devices (#2624 or #6513 required as a prerequisite), one battery backup, one 400-watt base power supply, two 500-watt power supplies, two I/O regulators, and disk units using #5058.

The line cord supplied will be 220V only (no specify code is required). The length and plug type will be specified using #9080, #9082 and #9083.

Prerequisites: #2688 and #2695 or #2688 and an open IOA slot on the base optical bus adapter.

#5073 will be specified by the configurator based on I/O card requirements. #5073 and #5058 appears on the extra controllers screen as an alternative to #5083.

The line cord supplied will be 220V only (no specify code is required). The length and plug type will be specified using #9080, #9082 and #9083. The two feature slots must only be used for adding internal disk unit IOPs.

#5083 will be specified by the configurator when an installed storage expansion unit or tower cannot contain sufficient DASD units, or when the addition of a storage expansion unit to an installed or proposed tower is not possible.

Internal Tape Units

The system and expansion towers accommodate internal 1/4-inch tape, 8mm tape, and CD-ROM. All devices are controlled by the system MFIOP, the Storage Device Controller (#2624), or the Internal Tape Device Controller (#6513). One CD-ROM is in the base of each model. Concurrent maintenance of tape and CD-ROM is supported on system units, expansion units, and expansion towers on all SXX models except the Model S10.

The maximum quantity of internal tape devices are as follows: 17 on the Models S30 and S40, and one on the Model S10. One CD-ROM is required per model.

Notes on tape migration:

Hardware data compression was supported on the MFIOP on previous models of the AS/400. Models S10 and S20 do not support hardware data compression as new tape devices all support compression or compaction internal to the device. Software data compression can still be used and is compatible with tapes written on prior systems with hardware data compression. Some degradation in system and tape performance may occur when using software data compression compared to a system with hardware data compression. Replacing the 1.2GB 1/4-Inch Tape with a new #6481 2.5GB 1/4-Inch tape (which supports 5.0GB typical capacity with device compaction) should be considered. Alternatively a new #6585 13.0GB 1/4-Inch tape (which supports 26GB typical capacity with device compaction) should be considered.

Migration kits contains different parts when ordered for a Model S20 that supports tape concurrent maintenance, than when ordered for a Model S10 that does not support tape concurrent maintenance.

(#4482) 4GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape

An internal tape drive with native performance of 380KB/sec and capacity of 4GB, and up to 760KB/sec with capacity of 8GB using data compression. The 4GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape unit does not read or write System/36 QIC-24 format.

The 4GB QIC drive mounts only in the Storage/PCI Expansion Tower (#5065), and is intended for data interchange. Alternate IPL is supported.

At a data rate of 1.5MB/sec and capacity of 16GB per cartridge, (up to 3MB/sec and 32GB per cartridge with data compaction), the 16GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape unit provides a growth path for the large number of AS/400s that use QIC tape for save/restore. It also may be used for alternate IPL, program distribution, migration, and 1/4-inch cartridge tape exchange.

·         Will read/write:

o        16GB (up to 32GB with compression in QIC5010 format) with IBM MLR1-16GB Data Cartridge (59H4175)

o        13GB (up to 26GB with compression in QIC5010 format) with IBM DC5010 Data Cartridge (16G8574)

#4483 - Mounts in the #5065 Storage/PCI Expansion Tower on Models S20, S30, and S40. Prerequisites: PCI RAID Disk Unit Controller (#2748) and OS/400 V4R4 with PTF MF22587, or Cumulative (cum) PTF package C9229440, or later.

#6383 - Mounts in the system unit on Models S30 and S40, and is controlled by the MFIOP. Also mounts in the #5072/#5073 expansion towers on Models S20, S30, and S40, and is controlled by the #6513 Internal Tape Device Controller. Requires OS/400 V4R1, or later.

#6483 - Mounts in Model S10 and S20 system units, or in the #5064/#9364 expansion units on Model S20. This tape unit includes different mounting parts when ordered for a Model S10, or an S20. Requires tape IOP #2726, #2740, #2741, #2748, #6513, or #9728. OS/400 V4R1, or later, is required.

(#4486) 25GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape Unit

Mounts in the #5065 Storage/PCI Expansion Tower and may be used for save/restore, alternate IPL, program distribution, migration, and 1/4-inch cartridge tape exchange. The #4486 is controlled by first #2748 PCI Disk Unit Controller in the #5065. Native performance is 2MB/sec with 25GB capacity, and up to 4MB/sec with 50GB of capacity using data compression.

#6382 is an internal tape drive that extends the performance and capacity of QIC (Quarter Inch Cartridge) technology. Previous investment in QIC technology is protected by the capability to read and write all previous AS/400 QIC formats back to QIC-120. The 4GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape unit does not read or write System/36 QIC-24 format.

Native media capacity is 4GB, and 8GB (typical) with data compression. Native performance is 380KB/sec, and 760KB/sec (typical) with data compression.

The 4GB QIC drive is intended for unattended save/restore for low-end systems, data interchange, and software distribution. Alternate IPL is supported.

Feature #6382 attaches to Models S20, S30, and S40, via the MFIOP, or #6513 (Internal Tape Device Controller). OS/400 V4R1, or later is required.

(#6482) 4GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape

#6482 is an internal tape drive that extends the performance and capacity of QIC (Quarter Inch Cartridge) technology. Previous investment in QIC technology is protected by the capability to read and write all previous AS/400 QIC formats back to QIC-120. The 4GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape unit does not read or write System/36 QIC-24 format.

Native media capacity is 4GB, and 8GB (typical) with data compression. Native performance is 380KB/sec, and 760KB/sec (typical) with data compression.

The 4GB QIC drive is intended for unattended save/restore for low-end systems, data interchange, and software distribution. Alternate IPL is supported.

Feature #6482 attaches to Models S10 and S20. OS/400 V4R1, or later is required.

(#6485) 13.0GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape

Disk, Tape, and Diskette Unit Controllers

Disk unit and tape unit IOPs are considered high-workload IOPs and thus require special consideration when configuring a system. In addition to their workload capability IOPs can be streaming or non-streaming.

Disk Unit IOPs

The AS/400 accommodates both internal and external disk devices. All internal devices are controlled by the MFIOP, the RAID 5 Disk Unit Controller (#6502), the Disk Unit Controller for RAID (#6512), the Storage Device Controller (#6530) or the RAID Disk Unit Controller (#6532). The external devices are controlled by the Direct Access Storage Device Controller (#6500) or the Tape/Disk Device Controller (#6501).

The following limits are to be placed on combinations of disk unit IOPs. It may be possible for a system to contain more IOPs than these limits suggest if an IOP is being used to control tape, CD-ROM or diskette.

Diskette Unit IOPs

The AS/400 accommodates the 9331 diskette including both 5 1/4" and 8" sizes. Diskettes are controlled by the Magnetic Storage Device Controller (#6112) or the Diskette Adapter (#6146).

(#2621) Removable Media Device Attachment

(For IBM US, No Longer Available as of June 30, 2000)

#2621 is an IOP that provides two ports of differential SCSI for tape and optical attachment to the AS/400. #2621 includes hardware data compression for tape devices. The following devices can be attached.

Each #2621 supports the following combinations of tape/optical devices (some restrictions apply).

The best performance can be obtained when the 9427 is attached to both ports of the #2621. This configuration does not allow the attachment of the 2440-A12, 7208-XXX or 9348-XXX.

The #2621 requires one card slot.

The configurator will specify #6534 for tape devices that can be controlled by #6534. Tape devices that require two ports of attachment to the AS/400 require #2621.

The configurator will specify the minimum number of IOPs for the number of tape devices ordered. You may order additional IOPs to attach one tape device per IOP. The following table identifies the maximum number of IOPs, including those required for attaching one tape device per IOP.

When tape devices are selected, the configurator will specify #6513 unless a #2624 already exists or has been specified for diskette.

When "internal cables" were ordered on the 3490E-CXX the #9980 is not required. The #2644 requires one card slot.

(#6146) Diskette Adapter

#6146 is an IOA that provides for the attachment of one SCSI diskette device. #6146 requires #2624 as a prerequisite. The following diskette devices are supported:

#6146 can be added to any #2624 for the purpose of controlling an external diskette. The addition of #6146 to #2624 does not reduce the #2624s ability to control internal tape devices; however, the #2624 must be placed in the correct slot in order to control the tape devices. When #6146 and #2624 are used for controlling diskette (and no internal tape is being controlled), the #2624 can be placed in slots 3 thru 10 in expansion towers #5072 and #5073. #6146 and #2624 can not be installed in Model S30 system units.

The configurator will specify #6534 for tape devices that can be controlled by #6534.

(#6513) Internal Tape Device Controller

#6513 is an IOP that can control up to four internal SCSI tape devices. When used in system unit on Model S40, the #6513 controls two internal tape devices. When used in expansion tower (#5070, #5071, #5072, or #5073) the #6513 controls up to four internal tape devices. #6513 requires OS/400 V3R7 (or later).

#2624 will be specified on V4R1 systems when a customer requires diskette or #1378. An installed #2624 or a #2624 specified to support the addition of #1378 or diskette will also be used to control the other supported tape devices (see description of #2624 for supported tapes). #6513 requires one card slot.

(#6532) RAID Disk Unit Controller

(For IBM US, No Longer Available as of June 30, 2000)

The #6532 is an Ultra SCSI controller with a 4MB write-cache that provides RAID-5 protection for internal disk units.

The #6532 is designed to control Ultra, Fast Wide and Fast Narrow SCSI disk units that are installed in the Storage Expansion Units (#5058) and Storage Expansion Towers (#5083). The #6532 will also control Ultra, Fast Wide and Fast Narrow SCSI disk units that are installed in the Storage Expansion Units (#5052) and Storage Expansion Towers (#5082) but due to hardware limitations those disks will be controlled at Fast Wide and Fast Narrow speeds. In addition to providing RAID-5 protection for disks, #6532 is also designed to work as a high performance controller for disks protected by system mirroring or disks with no protection. In the RAID-5 configuration, disk unit protection is provided at less cost than mirroring, and with greater performance than system checksums. #6532 offers greater performance than #6502, #6512 and #6530.

#6532 requires the V4R1 operating system. #6532 will be specified on all orders when a disk controller is required except when a #9751 is specified (See description for #9751).

When upgrading to SXX models, you can migrate existing #6502, #6512 and #6530 disk unit controllers. System performance may vary depending on the configuration and applications. You should determine performance needs to ensure that the current controllers meet expectations.

The #6532 controller supports a maximum of 16 drives. A minimum of four drives of the same capacity are needed for a valid RAID 5 configuration. A maximum of four arrays are allowed per controller, with a maximum of 10 drives allowed per array. All drives in an array must be of the same capacity. Parity is spread across four drives for arrays of four to seven drives. Parity can be spread across either four or eight drives for arrays of eight to ten drives. For systems started with eight to ten drives in an array the parity, for that array, will be spread across eight drives. For systems that are started with less than eight drives in an array and later upgraded to eight, nine or ten drives the RAID function must be stopped and then started before the parity will be spread across eight drives.

One #5058 or #5083 is required to support disk units when using #6532. #5052 or #5082 can also be used to support disk units but Ultra SCSI disks will be limited to Fast Wide SCSI speeds.

Refer to Internal Disk Unit Table for a list of disks that can be placed into RAID-5 arrays.

For the best performance use disks, disk controllers and storage expansion devices that are capable of Ultra SCSI performance. See Storage Expansion Units/Towers and Disk Support.

The #6533 is an Ultra SCSI controller with a 4MB write-cache that provides RAID-5 protection for internal disk units.

The #6533 controls Ultra, Fast Wide and Fast Narrow SCSI disk units installed in the Storage Expansion Units (#5058), Storage Expansion Towers (#5083) and System Unit Expansion #5064/#9364 with Expansion Unit for SPD Cards #9331. In addition, many buildings are already wired with UTP category 3 cabling. #2811 will typically be used where 25 Mbps speeds are required over distances of less than 100 meters.

(#2609) EIA 232/V.24 Two-Line Adapter

This combined twinaxial/communication adapter available on the S10 and S20 systems supports a single communication line. #2720 supports a multiple protocol communications port based on which of the cables below are attached. This adapter also supports twinaxial workstations. See description of the adapter in the workstation controller section of this document.

A wrap cable/plug and four 30-ft RJ-45 to RJ-45 network cables are shipped with each card.

Guidance for Choosing Between Features #2750, #2751, or #2761

Features #2750, #2751 and #2761 provide similar functions. Each provides eight connections to remote devices. TCP/IP PPP and SLIP protocols are supported over all three features. The following are guidelines for selecting which of the adapters should be used.

This feature provides the AS/400 with two ports capable of transmission and receipt of facsimile data to or from a Group 3 capable FAX machine, another AS/400 with an integrated FAX adapter, or PCs with appropriately programmed FAX adapters. Feature #2664 consists of a card, a wrap cable (one per machine), two country unique attachment couplers and telephone cables and Licensed Internal Code. I/O slots used: One. Maximums: See model summary table. This feature code may have country specific usage.

Encryption

(#2620) Cryptographic Processor

This feature is a hardware data encryption function. This feature consists of a multi-processor I/O processor card. This feature is only available in the US and Canada. In other countries due to export restrictions it can only be marketed to banks and to subsidiaries of US companies. In these countries, and if not a bank or US company's subsidiary, use feature #2628 (Limited Cryptographic Attachment). Maximum of one on Models S20, S30, S40.

#2620 requires an export license to be sold outside the US and Canada.

(#2628) Limited Cryptographic Processor

(For IBM US, No Longer Available as of December 31, 1999)

This feature is a hardware data encryption function. This feature is the same as feature #2620 except that it does not include the encrypt/decrypt function. Due to export restrictions in some non US Countries the full function encryption attachment feature #2620 cannot be marketed. The Limited Cryptographic Attachment feature #2628 can be marketed to any non US firm. Maximum of one on Models S20, S30, S40. #2628 has country specific usage.

(#4800) PCI Cryptographic Coprocessor

This feature, coupled with Cryptographic Service Provider APIs (BOSS option 35), within OS/400 V4R4, or later, provides a rich level of cryptographic function and secure storage of cryptographic keys. The level of encryption is determined by no-charge Cryptographic Access Provider licensed programs from IBM.

Prerequisites: Storage/PCI Expansion Tower (#5065) on Models S20, S30, and S40, or one PCI slot and PCI LAN/WAN Workstation IOA (#2824) on Models S10 and S20, or, the base PCI Integrated Expansion Unit (#9330) on Model S20. Requires OS/400 V4R4 with PTF MF22587, or Cumulative (cum) PTF package C9229440, or later.

(#4802) PCI Cryptographic Coprocessor

(For IBM US, No Longer Available as of November 21, 2003)

Provides a rich set of data encryption and authentication services for applications requiring high security. Cryptographic keys are stored in a tamper-resistant module on the coprocessor. This feature is ideally suited for banking and financial applications, however with the tamper resistant-module the coprocessor can be used to implement other advanced applications such as electronic postage metering.

Application services provided by the Coprocessor include:

The PCI Cryptographic Coprocessor is compatible with IBM's Common Cryptographic Architecture (CCA). OS/400 Option 35 CCA Cryptographic Service Provider is required along with one of the AS/400 Cryptographic Access Provider licensed program products (LPP) -- both Option 35 and the LPP are no-charge.

On plant orders, #4802 is shipped with the system, but installed at the customer location. It is supported only in the #5065 Storage/PCI Expansion Tower and the #5066 1.8m I/O Tower.

Prerequisites: OS/400 V4R5, and a high-speed slot under a base or feature #2824 IOP.

This feature is used to transfer data between systems using a twinaxial link. Power cord selection for this feature is based off of the country code. On upgrades, the power cord selection will be based off of the install records for the system power cord. No cables are included. Prerequisite: One #2720, #2722, #6050, #6140, #6180, #9050, #9140, #9280, or #9720 must be on each system. Maximum: One.
