.TEXT GAMES These are old text games, roughly sorted by EXE or COM filename. Most of these games have instructions included. There are notes on each game below. Usually each game tells you how to quit, but for those that don't, try the following in this order: 1. If there is a hint in these notes use it 2. Press Esc 3. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del 4. Run SETUP first to set your preferences. To quit, type in 'Quit'. Use -d option when unzipping Zorks. See below for some hints. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- D R A G O N ----------- This is a text-based game. You must stand in a room adjacent to the one with the dragon, then shoot the dragon through the doorway. There are water and wind hazards. The water hazard will kill you. The wind will blow you into another room selected at random. If you step into the room with the dragon, you die. Commands: A-E move to that room T take an object eg T L to take the lamp P drop the object S shoot the crossbow eg S B to shoot through door B L 'look' I 'inventory' H command help X quit Q quit | cheat (see below) Cheating: To cheat, enter '|' as a command instead of 'a' or whatever. This will tell you what room number you are in, and the contents of the adjacent rooms. If none of them show 'dragon', move to any room that has nothing in it, then enter '|' again. Continue doing this until you find a room with the dragon in it. You then shoot into that room, and you've won. Here are some hints. How to get into the control bubble with the blue rod? Put the gold rod in the slot, and the clear rod in the slot. Five slots will appear. Put the coloured rods into their respective slots. Push the large pink square to set the course towards the inner solar system. Push the brown spot to choose your destination. To get to earth, press it 4 times. The violet spot chooses how you want to come in. Press it 3 or 4 times. The green button chooses speed. Push it twice. Push blue to launch. Start: ZORK2.EXE Other files: ZORK2.80A Quit: Type in 'Quit' Notes: Screen must be 25 lines before starting. Has been known to crash. Zork Hints: 1. Zork III - To sneak by the Guardians of Zork. Be polite, give them plenty to drink. 2. Zork III - How to get the jewels. There is a chest on cliff edge. Take it, and wait for a man to come down. He will ask you to tie the chest to the rope. Do it. After a while he will ask you to grab the rope. Do it. He will have now opened the chest and taken the jewels out. Don't try to take them. He will give you a staff. Keep it, you will need it later. 3. Zork II - How to get by Cerberus. Put the collar from the kennel on the dog to go east. 4. Zork I - How to move the coffin. Get the sceptre which is inside the coffin.
