Installation: IMPORTANT: If you are using a 3D card that is already supported by the 1.0 version of the game (cards using the 3Dfx, Rendition Verite 1000, and Permedia 2 chipsets), we recommend that you do NOT copy over the Shadows.exe file as you may encounter problems if you do so. However, the fix for the Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback may still be used by simply copying the Shadowff.dll file into the SDATA folder.

When you run the self-executable file, it will create a new folder; C:\Shadows. There will be five files in it; Shadows.exe, Shadowff.dll, Shadows.doc, Shadows.txt and Readme.txt. After the folder is created, you will need to copy the appropriate file(s) into the directory where you originally installed Shadows of the Empire. The default location is C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Shadows.

JOYSTICK FIX

To install the new joystick file that will correct problems with the Microsoft Force Feedback joystick, simply copy the Shadowff.dll file into the SDATA folder. Next, copy the Shadows.doc, Shadows.txt and Readme.txt files into the Shadows folder. When you copy these files to the directories, you will be asked if you want to overwrite the existing files. Choose "Yes to All" to overwrite the existing versions of these files.

ADDED 3D SUPPORT

For NEC PowerVR PCX2 and NVidia Riva 128 graphics card users, copy the Shadows.exe file into the SDATA folder. Next, copy the Shadows.doc, Shadows.txt and Readme.txt files into the Shadows folder. When you copy these files to the directories, you will be asked if you want to overwrite the existing files. Choose "Yes to All" to overwrite the existing versions of these files.

Corrects: This version of the game has been modified to:

• Include support for graphics cards using the NEC PowerVR PCX2 or NVidia RIVA 128 chipset.
• This patch should cure problems associated with the Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback joystick. The problem will usually manifest itself as a loss of joystick control (often with the joystick pushing to the lower left corner for no apparent reason). This problem most commonly occurs when the joystick is used in conjunction with the Creative Labs series of sound cards.

The shadows.exe from the 1.1 version should be used for these cards and chipsets:

Notes: If you are using a graphics card with the NEC PowerVR PCX2 chipset, you should be running on at least a Pentium 133 with 32 megabytes of RAM when playing Shadows of the Empire.
