The Microsoft CD-ROM extensions require MSCDEX.EXE version 2.2 or later to be
compatible with MS-DOS 5.0 or enhanced mode Windows 3.x.

Problems with older MSCDEX.EXE files include CDR error messages such as:

  CDR 103 Error: Not of High Sierra Format or ISO 9960 Format

The application may also display the copyright and version information and then
return to the command prompt.

For MSCDEX.EXE version 2.2 to function correctly with MS-DOS 5.0, SETVER.EXE must
be loaded in the CONFIG.SYS file.
