SYMPTOMS
========

On a Windows NT Server with Services for Macintosh (SFM), the following error
message appears:

  A device attached to the system is not functioning.

when you attempt to do one of the following on a Macintosh volume from File
Manager:

- Give a folder and its subfolder the "Cannot move, rename, or delete"
  attribute with the Macintosh permissions.

- Copy this directory to another part of the volume.

- Query the Macintosh file permissions.

The error message disappears when you open the volume from a Macintosh client.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT
Advanced Server version 3.1. This problem has been corrected in the latest U.S.
Service Pack for Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. For
