SYMPTOMS

When you send a message as plain text with Western Character Set through an
Exchange Server 5.5 computer, the message will be received with the European
characters displayed as a question marks (for example, "?").

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Exchange Server

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server
versions 5.0 and 5.5. This problem was first corrected in Exchange Server 5.5
Service Pack 2.
