This article describes how to obtain and use a free membership to Encarta Online
Deluxe Encyclopedia if your new computer included a free one-year subscription.

Encarta Online Deluxe Encyclopedia is a premium Internet multimedia encyclopedia
with 42,000 articles, an atlas, a dictionary, Web links, and more. When you
register for Encarta Online Deluxe, you are offered a free subscription to
Encarta Online Deluxe Encyclopedia. This offer is valid for one year from the
date of registration, not from the date of purchase.
For example, if you start your membership on Oct 31, 2001, your membership to
Encarta Online Deluxe is valid until Oct 31, 2002.
You can use the Online Deluxe Encyclopedia from any computer with Internet
access. The Encarta CD-ROM or DVD-ROM discs are not required, except for initial
membership.
Registering for Encarta Online Deluxe

NOTE: You must have Internet access for online registration, so make sure to
connect to the Internet before you follow these steps.
2002 Version:
Locate the shortcut (icon) labeled Try Encarta Online Deluxe! or Encarta Online
Deluxe on your desktop or Start menu. Double-click this icon to open your Web
browser, which opens the Encarta Web site. This process does not require an
Encarta CD.
2001 Version:
On the Help menu, click Registration. Click Register Online Now.
Registration:
The first time you run Encarta Online Deluxe, the program prompts you to
register.
NOTE: If the program does not prompt you to register, and you receive the
following error message
We're sorry, but there is no Online Deluxe subscription associated with this
Passport.
please stop. This message indicates that you are already registered for Encarta
Online Deluxe.
1. Type your name, e-mail address, and mailing address.
2. Select whether you want to join the Encarta Annual Update Program.
3. Click "Yes, I want to sign up for a free introductory offer for Encarta
Online Deluxe".
4. Select whether you want to receive the Encarta News e-mail newsletter.
5. Click Next.
6. If you are prompted to sign in with .NET Passport, do either of the
following:
- If you have a .NET Passport already, sign in. You can use any of the
following accounts:
- .NET Passports provided by Passport.com
- MSN Internet Access e-mail address
- Your Hotmail e-mail address
- If you do not have a .NET Passport already, click "Get one now" at the
sign-in screen for .NET Passport. After you receive your .NET Passport,
you will be returned to the next Encarta Online page.
NOTE: Do not leave the sign-up process at this point.
7. The following page is displayed:

Encarta Online Deluxe CD Free Trial
Next time you return, click the Deluxe sign-in link from
http://encarta.msn.com to access Encarta Online Deluxe.

2. Click Deluxe Sign-In.
3. If you are prompted, sign in to your .NET Passport account.
NOTE: If your Passport account is configured to sign you in automatically, you
are not prompted to sign in.
