ATTENTION
Please read the following page before installing the motherboard.
Switch Settings
When initially setting up the jumpers on the AI5VG+, it is important that you use the correct settings. The manuals for these motherboards carry settings for both the 66Mhz and 100Mhz versions of the motherboard. If the settings for the correct version of the motherboard are not used, then there will be no display and no warning beeps when the system is powered up.
In the United Kingdom, we have only ever sold the 100Mhz versions of these motherboards. You can check the version that you have by looking at the motherboard itself. In between two of the PCI expansion slots, you will see the model of the motherboard printed on the circuit board. After the model of the motherboard, there should be a box with "100" printed in it. This will confirm that you have the 100Mhz version of the motherboard. Make sure therefore, that you use the settings from the pages in the manual which apply to this.
In Chapter 4, "Hardware Settings", in the manual, there are two sections which deal with CPU Frequency settings. Section 4.1 SW1(1-8): CPU Frequency Selector (AI5VG+-66MHz), applies to the 66Mhz version of the motherboard. Section 4.2 SW1(1-8): CPU Frequency Selector (AI5VG+-100MHz), applies to the 100Mhz version of the motherboard.
Be sure to set the CPU Frequency using Section 4.2 of the manual.
Additional Switch Settings
The CPU Frequency Switch Settings do not list settings for the AMD K6-2 550. They should be as follows:
off off off xx off off on off |
100MHz |
66MHz |
5.5x |
K6-2 550 |
Clock Generator
Later versions of the AI5VG+, which have an ICS 9148-58 Clock Generator, do not support CPUs with 60MHZ CPU Clocks. This includes the following CPUs:
Intel P54C-90 Intel P54C-120
Intel P54C-150 IDT Winchip C6-180
AMD K5 PR90.
Please refer to the first page in the manual, which gives further details.
JP6
If you are using a Processor with a CPU Clock of 95 or 100MHZ, and want to use PC66 or SIMM type memory, then the following should be noted:
Section 4.3 JP1, SW1(4): DRAM Operating frequency shows that SW1(4) should be left in the OFF position and JP1 should be SHORTED.
Section 4.4 JP6: System Frequency Divider should still be set to the CPU clock, regardless of the memory in use. JP6 should be SHORTED for a CPU Clock of 95 or 100MHZ.
VIA Drivers
VIA Drivers are provided on the yellow "Drivers and Utilities" CD accompanying the motherboard. Please be sure to install the VIA Motherboard drivers before installing any VGA Card Drivers.
