abstract

This patch should only be applied when IBM models 35 and 40 are used as non-dedicated routers. The patch solves the problem of slow keyboard response with NetWare 2.2 and v3.11.

installation

****************************************************************
Note: Applying this patch using the floppy disk method is not recommended due to the nature of the patch. Please use the following instructions for the hard disk method.
****************************************************************

To apply patch using the hard disk method:

1. Create a TEMP directory and copy the contents of IBMRT.EXE to the directory. Also from the ROUTEGEN diskette copy NPROUTER.OBJ to the TEMP directory. Perform the following steps from the TEMP directory.

2. Rename the NPROUTER.OBJ TO NPRTWORK.OBJ
          (REN NPROUTER.OBJ NPRTWORK.OBJ)

3. Apply the first stage of the patch.
          ZAPOBJ NPRTWORK.OBJ NPROUTER.OBJ PS2PATR.FIX

4. Use RENFLAGR.EXE to apply the second stage of the patch.
          RENFLAGR NPROUTER.OBJ

Now the patch is applied to the NPROUTER.OBJ. The following instructions are for creating ROUTER.EXE using the newly patched NPROUTER.OBJ.

5. In the TEMP directory create a ROUTEGEN subdirectory and copy the contents of the ROUTEGEN floppy to the directory. Also copy the patched NPROUTER.OBJ to the ROUTEGEN directory.

6. Create a PATCHES directory at the same level as the ROUTEGEN directory.

7. Copy PS2PAT.OBJ and ROUTEGEN.LNK to the PATCHES subdirectory.

8. The ROUTEGEN.EXE that came with the patch should already be in the TEMP directory, if not, copy the ROUTEGEN.EXE that came with IBMRT.ZIP to the TEMP directory.

The directory structure should look like the following:

TEMP---ROUTEGEN.EXE (this is the EXE that came with
     IBMRT.ZIP)
         ROUTEGEN (sub)--contents of routegen diskette
                               patched NPROUTER.OBJ
         PATCHES (sub)--ps2pat.obj
                               routegen.lnk
         LAN_DRV_.001 (sub)--contents of lan_drv_001 diskette

The lan_drv_.001 would be replaced with the appropriate lan_drv_.xxx directory if you are using third party lan drivers.

***************************************************
Note: If the ROUTEGEN.LNK file is left in the temp directory the linking process will fail. After copying ROUTEGEN.LNK to the PATCHES directory delete it from the TEMP directory. This should be done before executing ROUTEGEN.
***************************************************

9. Using the new ROUTEGEN.EXE included with IBMRT.ZIP create a new router.exe. In the TEMP directory type ROUTEGEN and press return. Now follow the prompts to create the appropriate router for your system. For instructions go to page 59 of the "Installing and Maintaining the Network" manual.

10. Copy the ROUTER.EXE from the ROUTEGEN directory to a floppy diskette and on the model 35 or 40 to be used as the router boot to DOS and execute the router.

         PATCHES (sub)--ps2pat.obj
                               routegen.lnk
         LAN_DRV_.001 (sub)--contents of lan_drv_001 diskette

The lan_drv_.001 would be replaced with the appropriate lan_drv_.xxx directory if you are using third party lan drivers.

***************************************************
Note: If the ROUTEGEN.LNK file is left in the temp directory the linking process will fail. After copying ROUTEGEN.LNK to the PATCHES directory delete it from the TEMP directory. This should be done before executing ROUTEGEN.
