NI.ZIP and DIBMIG.NLM v. 2.32

The install script for this patch will add the required files necessary to perform an NDS upgrade from NDS 6.xx (NW 4.11) or 7.xx (NW 5.0 or NW 5.1) to 8.xx (NW 5.0 or NW 5.1).

1. Copy the patch (preDS8.EXE) to a directory on the server being patched. (ie SYS:\TEMPINST)

2. From a workstation, run the executable.

3. Run NWCONFIG.NLM from the server console prompt.

4. Go to Product Options

5. Go to Install a product not listed

6. Hit F3 to specify a different path

7. Specify the path were the patch was extracted (ie SYS:\TEMPINST).
NOTE: You are looking for the directory where the preDS8.ips file is located.

8. Press ENTER and follow the prompts.

9. After the installation, you are ready to migrate NDS to NDS 8.xx. Follow all migration procedures that are included in the readme files on the NDS8 migration CD.

CHANGES MADE IN DIBMIG.NLM (v 2.32 10/26/2000)

- DIBMIG.NLM will now use suballocation while migrating from DS 7.x to DS 8.x

CHANGES MADE IN DIBMIG.NLM (V.2.31 10/10/2000)

- Fixed an abend that occured during migration in DIBMIG.NLM

- Fixed an issue where subordinate replicas got stuck in a "DYING" state during the migration.

- Fixed an issue where collisions (renames i.e. 1_2) appeared in the tree after a migration.

NOTE: Several TIDS warn that ALL obituaries MUST be cleaned up on the NW 4.11 box being migrated before the migration or collisions will occur. Although that is still a good thing to do, with the new DIBMIG, it is not required.

CHANGES MADE TO NI.ZIP

No additional changes where made to the file publicly available (NIPT1.EXE). This file is included to insure that both NI.ZIP and DIBMIG are put into place before the migration.

This patch addresses problems experienced when doing an inplace upgrade from NetWare 4.x to NetWare 5.1 on some hardware configurations. The installation program will generate a fatal error when it gets to the module that launches the Java based GUI. This only applies to an Inplace Upgrade from NetWare 4.x to 5.1. The New Server installation works fine without this patch.

After the fatal error occurs, look at the SYS:NI\DATA\NI.LOG file and scroll down to the bottom and you will see 3 fatal errors, the first one being "Fatal: Unrecoverable error in driver.mainHallway()."

This file fixes a problem with how the NetWare 5.1 installation program handles an entry in the NetWare 4.x PRODUCTS.DAT file.

Towards the end of the NI.LOG file you will see the following Fatal errors:
