Network Station - Miscellaneous preferences - 5250 sessions for all users

Applicable to: World-Wide

Question:

How can miscellaneous preferences for 5250 sessions be created for all users ?

Answer:

System default misc. preferences are not supported at this time. However, there is a work-around that can be done to simulate this:

All users who need to pick up the default changes must bring up a 5250 session and then click on Options->Miscellaneous Preferences->Set Defaults. Then Save and Exit. This will delete out any misc. pref. file that any user may have. Next an administrator must go into his Miscellaneous Preferences and make the desired system default changes. Save and Exit. This file will be saved on the IFS in /QIBM/UserData/NetworkStation/users/(user name)/ns5250 directory.

Then this file must be copied to the IFS directory /QIBM/UserData/NetworkStation/SysDef/NS5250. Then, at 5250 startup time, this default file will be read in and used. Users can make additional misc. pref. changes that build upon the default file. However, if the default file is changed, those users who made changes on top of the default file will not pick up these new default changes.
