TP 760 - Heating while in operation
Applicable to: World-Wide
Subject :
My ThinkPad 760 is warm. Why? Is this a problem?
It is normal and in spec for these systems to feel warm while in operation. Our design makes use of a convection heat pipe that radiates heat from the active components of the system to a large heat sink on the base. The bottom of the system gets warm as this heat is dispersed from the unit.
This design was chosen so that an active device such as a fan was not required to keep the system within operational limits for reliability.
Our products are designed to, tested and meet rigorous IBM corporate standards for Safety, Quality and Reliability. Additionally these systems meet UL I950 and UL 478 standards for Information Technology Equipment. This spec is in place to ensure that products are not too hot to handle. These systems also meet PCMCIA standards including the specification for heat. The 760C/CD/L/LD/E/ED/EL/ELD meet PCMCIA standard release 2.1. Our systems will operate with
PCMCIA cards that are also built to PCMCIA spec. We support and stand behind our systems and provide warranty, service and technical help if required.
Future designs of ThinkPads may incorporate the same or similar designs.
