ThinkPad 56W DC Power Adapter - May not charge battery when used with certain ThinkPads

Symptom:
The ThinkPad 56W DC Power Adapter does not work with all ThinkPads.
Solution:
The ThinkPad 56W DC Power Adapter is officially supported on the following ThinkPad systems:
IBM is not responsible for system performance or damage that may occur to the system or battery if the DC Power Adapter is used in non-supported systems.
Additional information:
The ThinkPad 56W DC Power Adapter works in all ThinkPads with the following exceptions:
The ThinkPad 56W DC Power Adapter has an output of 12-16VDC. The 310 and i Series 1400 ThinkPads support a 19VDC input voltage and therefore will not work. The 340, 365, 500, 510, and 701 support an input voltage of 16VDC and will operate, but may have difficulty charging the battery while using the ThinkPad 56W DC Power Adapter as an external power source.
