TP SelectaDock - 3Com 100/10 PCI Ethernet Card locks up during Hot Undock
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
The system will lock when HOT undocking, whether the LAN is connected or not.
Configuration:
3Com 100/10 PCI Ethernet Card in a Selectadock
The above problem with PCI/ISA adapters such as the 3Com adapter is not uncommon.
The 3Com PCMCIA Ethernet Card in the SelectaDock works fine
Solution:
As a general statement PCI/ISA adapters may not support HOT/Warm docking simply due to the design of the adapter and drivers. There is more "overhead" involved when hot/warm docking. Most PCI/ISA adapters are designed for operation in a desktop environment in which hot/warm docking does not exist.
PCMCIA adapters are typically the adapter of choice in this type environment since PCMCIA is designed more for the mobile user environment.
NOTE: This does not mean all PCMCIA adapters will support hot/warm docking. PCMCIA is the recommended solution if the PCI/ISA is not functioning as desired.
