Note: This procedure is only for the 2159-Sxx Series Aptivas. This fix is only for Ring Central and Hewlett-Packard (HP) Printers. This software adjustment fixes the software inconsistency between the HP Deskjet printer driver and the Ring Central's FAX printing software. Specifically, there is a driver issue between the Aptiva's Ring's Central and HP's Deskjet Printers that may not allow printing of TIFF files, including FAXs. Installation of this file update corrects this issue.

-When the file is downloaded to your hard drive, the location on the drive should be noted. If the location was not noted, the file can be found with the Window 95's 'Find' function.

-Using Windows 95, the file's location can be found by clicking on the "Start" button and then on "Find". Click on the menu item "Files or Folders".

-Type "RCHPFIX.EXE" in the "Named" dialog box. Click "Find Now". The file will be found and appear below in a text window.

1. When you have found the fix, double-click on the file to start the file extraction. The file will start to extract after warning that this fix is for Aptiva Sxx models only. It will correct problems with Ring Central printing on some HP Deskjet printers.

2. The extraction program will ask for a blank diskette to be inserted into the floppy drive. Insert a blank formatted 1.44MB floppy into the diskette drive and press the 'Enter' key. The program will copy the extracted files onto the diskette.

3. When the extraction process is completed, the program will ask if another copy is desired. Press the "N" key for no. The DOS window will have to be closed by clicking on the "X" button at the top of the window. This process will write four files onto the floppy diskette drive - "install.bat", "rocommgr.exe", "uinstall.bat", and "readme.txt" files.

4. To update the files on your hard drive, leave the diskette in the floppy drive, click on the "Start" button and click on "Run". In the "Run" window, type in "A:\install" and press the "Enter" key.

5. The program will start a DOS box and warn that "Your software is about to be updated, would you like to continue? Yes, No, or Quit:[Y,N, Q]?" Answer Y to continue. If you do not answer in time, the program will quit itself with a Q. If this happens, close the DOS window by clicking on the "X" and then restart the process from 8).

6. The program will first check to see if this procedure has previously been done. If the procedure has been done before, the program will tell you and then stop. It is actually renaming a file in Ring Central and then copying a file from the floppy disk to the Ring Central's directory with it's old name. This process replaces the file R0COMMGR.EXE with the updated version..

7. After finishing, the program will tell you that it has updated your software and that the system needs to be restarted for the changes to take effect. Close the DOS window by clicking on the "X" in the upper right of the DOS program window. This will close the DOS program window. Remove the floppy disk. Click on the "Start" button and click on "Shut Down" Click on the circle next to the menu item "Restart the Computer" and click on "Yes" This will shut down and restart the computer.
