IBM PC300GL (Type 6267, 6277, 6287) - Modem is not muted after setting volume to "off"
Applicable to: World-Wide
SYMPTOM:
After setting the "Speaker Volume" to "Off" in the Modem Properties window, the modem speaker is still heard when establishing a connection.
PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
This tip applies, but is not limited to, IBM PC300GL Series 6267/77/87 systems preloaded with Windows 98 or reinstalled with Windows 95.
The speaker condition is limited to internal modems.
FIX:
The modem volume slider and mute controls are only functional for communication applications that meet the Telephony Application Programming Interface (TAPI) specification. Customers should reference their documentation, or contact the manufacturer of their particular application to verify if it meets the TAPI specification.
If the customer's application does not meet the TAPI specification, the modem speaker can be turned off, or volume lowered by adding either of the following commands to the modem initialization string:
1. M0 = modem speaker is always off.
2. L1 = modem speaker volume is lowest.
