56K ISA Modem Internet Kit - Modem disconnects and Caller-ID issues
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
The 56k Win modem may experience the following problems with Smith Micro Quicklink Message Center III.
After the modem disconnects from a voice call (taking a phone message or a speaker phone call), the error "The modem has failed to respond, check the modem and try again." may be generated. Then when <Enter> is pressed or "OK" is clicked, the modem works fine.
Resolution:
1. Download 56kfix.exe from the IBM File Repository, or double click here to download the file.
2. Proceed as follows:
a. Go into the View option in Quicklink message center, make sure that message counter is checked, this will display the Voice, Fax & Data menus with the number of messages or faxes available.
b. Beside the Voice, Fax and Data you will see Mic, Mailbox and a left arrow key. To the right of those graphics you will see a Smith Micro Symbol - if you place the mouse pointer on the symbol, a pop up help statement will appear with the option to switch window on/off. Click once with the mouse and the CallerID window will appear, it will list STATUS, NAME, NUMBER, PAGES & DOCUMENT.
