PCServer704 - 640x480x256 limitation with 512KB video DRAM under Warp Server SMP
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
With 512KB, you should be able to get the following video resolutions, as per the PC Server 704 Reference Manual:
Screen resolutions with 512 KB of video DRAM:
- 640 x 480 pels with up to 256 colors
- 800 x 600 pels with up to 256 colors
- 1024 x 768 pels with up to 16 colors
Screen resolutions with 1 MB of video DRAM:
- 1280 x 1024 with up to 16 colors
- 1024 x 768 with up to 256 colors
When you install Warp Server SMP, you can only get 640x480x256 .
Resolution:
OS/2 video will only support 640x480x256 color mode on a video card with 512k of video memory. This is by design. According to the various methods of calculation, higher resolution is obtainable with 512k, but the OS/2 video driver set is only written to yield 640x480 with this configuration. Any higher resolution/colors mode will require a minimum of 1 MB of video memory.
