TP 600 - Using the Hewlett Packard 7200 Series CD-R

SYMPTOM:
1. The diskette in the floppy drive will be read as unformatted. The diskette will not be capable of being formatted.
2. An error will occur when making a CD indicating that a buffer underrun occurred.
CONFIGURATION:
Thinkpad 600 and a Hewlett Packard 7200 Series external CD-R.
SOLUTION:
To fix the problem of the floppy drive reading diskettes as unformatted, follow the instructions below.
1. Go to the Device Manager (Start->Settings->Control Panel->System->Device Manager Tab).
2. Double click on SCSI Controllers.
3. Double click on the Shuttle EPAT External ATAPI Adapter.
4. Select the Settings tab.
5. Change the parameters line to read: /w95/de/db/ni/dp/irq=7.
6. A reboot is necessary for the change to take effect.
To fix the problem of buffer underruns occurring when making a CD, change the operating mode of the parallel port. Follow the instructions below to configure the port.
1. Open Thinkpad Configuration (Start->Programs->Thinkpad->Thinkpad Configuration).
2. Click on the parallel port icon on the lower left.
3. Change the operating mode to EPP.
4. Click OK.
5. A reboot is necessary for the change to take effect.
