Netfinity 5000 - NMI failure on Netfinity 5000 with OS/2
Applicable to: World-Wide
On the Netfinity 5000 server running OS/2 Warp Server, OS/2 Warp Server Advanced or OS/2 Warp Server SMP NMI errors may occur when running an unsupported version of the S3 video driver.
These NMI failures have been seen when running version 3.03.23 of the S3 driver and may also occur with older versions. When the NMI failure happens, the NMI LED on the planar will light up, and the video display will freeze. On the front of the system unit an orange exclamation mark will light up indicating that the onboard service processor has noticed a critical failure. When running a debug kernel with a serial terminal attached a TRAP0002 can be seen. The system will automatically reboot after about a minute due to the hardware watchdog feature of the service processor.
The supported version of the S3 video driver is 3.03.26 as shipped with ServerGuide.
