IBM PS/2 - May fail when adapter cards with ROM are installed
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
PS/2 8535 and 8540 systems may exhibit a system hang with a flashing cursor and no memory count when an adapter card with Read Only Memory (ROM) is installed. This failure is due to the adapter ROM address being configured to an address that conflicts with the system architecture.
Problem Isolation Aids:
1. adapters without ROM are not affected.
2. To determine if an adapter has ROM, reference the documentation shipped with the adapter. The adapter document will also provide instructions to change the ROM address if applicable.
Fix:
1. Video Adapter Cards
Relocate adapter ROM to an address between C0000 and C7FFF using the adapter card documentation.
2. Non-Video Adapter Cards:
Relocate adapter ROM to an address other than C0000 through C7FFF using the adapter card documentation.
Notes:
1. Memory addresses C0000 through C7FFF are revised for video adapter ROM. However, other adapters without ROM should function correctly within these addresses.
2. Video adapter ROM set to addresses outside C0000 through C7FFF will not be recognised as a video adapter.
3. Non-Video adapters set to ROM addresses C0000 through C7FFF may be recognised as a video adapter.
