386 Systems in this document use 72-pin 85ns gold-lead PS/2-style parity memory in units of 1, 2, 4 or 8 MB. 486 Systems use 30-pin 80 ns tin-lead parity memory and must be installed in identical sets of 4 (same size and speed)

Video Drivers for Windows 3.1 for the Tseng ET-4000 chipset can be obtained from our ftp site at: ftp://ftp.infania.net/pccbbs/ps1/tseng4.exe
To upgrade the video memory from 512KB to 1MB on the systems capable of this upgrade, you need to add one 40-pin ZIP DRAM module, configured as 256K x 16 bits for a total of 512KB of additional memory for the video/graphics subsystem to access. The 40-pin ZIP module is plugged into an empty 40-pin ZIP socket on the system board.

The only supported processor upgrade for these machines is the Intel math coprocessor (387 for the 386 machines and the 487 for the 486 machines).

All machines came with a GVC 2400 bps modem configured to COM1 IRQ4. These modems are Hayes-Compatible.

All of these machines use a standard IDE controller. This interface should support any standard IDE device. Some Enhanced IDE (EIDE) devices (namely hard drives larger than 528MB) may be able to function with the use of disk overlay software, normally supplied by the drive manufacturer, but is not supported by IBM. Though EIDE CD-ROMs are not supported on these machines, a CD-ROM with it's own ISA interface controller should work. Any ISA card (CD-ROM controller, modem, SCSI card) added to these machines needs to be non-"Plug and Play" to help insure compatability. All of these options assume you have sufficient room inside of your case (slots and/or drive bays), please check this before purchasing any options. It is also advisable to check with the option's manufacturer as to the minimum system requirements for their product.

Phone Support for these machines is available from IBM on a fee basis over the IBM Club's 900# (1-900-555-2582). The first minute of this call is free, each additional minute is charged to your phone bill at a rate of $2.99/minute.
