Achiever 2000 - Re-installing the original software for systems with the Aspen modem/Super Sound audio

Question:
How do I reload the original software in my Ambra 2000 computer with the ASPEN modem and Super Sound audio card?

Answer:
Follow the steps below.

*** ATTENTION ***
If you follow the steps below, you will lose all your data and program files. The hard drive will no longer contain any personal information. If you have important files you wish to keep, please save them before going any further.

For this procedure you will need :
The Windows 95 startup disk
The Windows 95 CD
The Windows 95 Certificate of Authenticity (found on the cover of the Windows 95 manual)
The diskette labeled Super Sound32
The ASPEN 33 ISIS installation disks
The SIS Multimedia/IDE CD

Re-installing Windows 95

  1. Insert the Windows 95 startup disk into drive A and then start the computer.
  2. When the A:\> prompt appears, insert the Windows 95 CD.
  3. Type "FDISK" and press Enter.
  4. Choose option 3 and press Enter.
  5. Choose option 1, then press Enter.
  6. When you see the warning just press the Enter key.
  7. It will then ask you for the volume label, it should be written under where it says VOLUME LABEL.
  8. Enter the volume label and then press Enter.
  9. When it asks you if you are sure, press Y and then press Enter.
  10. Press the Escape key (Esc) to continue.
  11. Choose option 1 and press Enter.
  12. From the second menu choose option 1 and then press Enter.
  13. When it asks you if you wish to use the maximum available space answer "YES" and press Enter.
  14. Restart the computer.
  15. When you get back to the A:\> prompt type "FORMAT C:"
  16. Press Enter.
  17. It will then ask you if you wish to proceed with the format. Answer YES and then press Enter.
  18. When it is done it will ask you for a volume label, just press Enter.
  19. From the A:\> prompt type "D:" and press Enter.
  20. Type "SETUP" and press Enter.
  21. To continue press Enter.
  22. Press Enter once again.
  23. Agree with the license stipulations.
  24. Click NEXT to continue.
  25. Click NEXT to install the software in the windows directory.
  26. Choose a TYPICAL installation, then click NEXT.
  27. Enter the OEM number that is on the green Certificate of Authenticity, the number is on top of the bar-code.
  28. Enter your name and company if you have one, and then click NEXT.
  29. When Windows asks you if you want to install a network adapter, just click on NEXT.
  30. At the following window, choose INSTALL THE MOST COMMON COMPONENTS then click NEXT.
  31. At the next window choose NO I DO NOT WANT A STARTUP DISK, then click on NEXT.
  32. Click on NEXT button to copy the windows files.
  33. When the files are copied, click FINISH to restart the computer. Remove the floppy disk and click OK.
  34. If windows asks you to insert the Windows 95 CD, do so and click on OK.
  35. If that does not work, click on SKIP FILE until windows asks you to set the time and date.
  36. When Windows asks you to install the printer click on CANCEL , you will install the printer with the specific disks provided with the printer.
  37. Click on OK to restart Windows.
  38. When back in Windows, click on Start, Settings and select Control Panel.
  39. In the Control Panel double-click on the System icon.
  40. Click on the Device Manager tab.
  41. Double click on the Mouse option. You will see that there are 2 mice installed.
  42. Highlight the first one, then click on the Remove button.
  43. Click on OK and then your mouse may freeze. (This is normal).
  44. To remove the second mouse, press the down arrow key and highlight standard PS/2 port mouse.
  45. When it is highlighted press the Tab key until you have highlight Remove, then press Enter twice.
  46. The mice will now be removed.
  47. We now need to restart Windows. Press the CTRL and ESCAPE keys together.
  48. Highlight Shutdown and press Enter twice.
  49. Once the system is shut down, re-power the computer.

For the sound and modem:

  1. When Windows has restarted click on Start, Settings and select Control Panel.
  2. Double click on the System icon.
  3. Click on the Device Manager tab.
  4. Double click on Other Devices.
  5. Then highlight the first item under that option and click on Remove, then click on OK.
  6. Do the same for all of the options listed under Other Devices till they are all gone.
  7. Next, double click on the Sound Video and Game Controllers.
  8. Highlight the first item under that option, click on Remove, then click on OK.
  9. Do the same for all of the item under that option until it's gone as well.
  10. Click on the Refresh button. Windows 95 will find the sound card.
  11. Insert the Super Sound 32 disk when prompted and click on OK to install the drivers.
  12. Make sure that the files are copied from A:\, other wise it will not work.
  13. You will then get a window that asks you for the MWAVE disks.
  14. Insert the Aspen 33 disk 1 and click on OK.
  15. Once again, make sure that Windows copies the files from A:\ and click on OK.
  16. Install the software in the MWW directory and click on OK.
  17. When the install program prompts you for the disks 2 and 3, insert them accordingly. At the end it will ask you to remove the disks, do so and then click on OK.
  18. Windows will then ask you to restart, click on Yes.
  19. When windows restarts your modem and sound card will be installed and you should get a box that says the MWAVE install is complete.

For the video adapter

  1. Insert the SIS MULTIMEDIA/IDE CD.
  2. In Windows right click the mouse on the background of the screen.
  3. Go to Properties, then click on the SETTINGS tab.
  4. Click on ADVANCED DISPLAY PROPERTIES or CHANGE DISPLAY TYPE.
  5. Next to adapter, click on CHANGE.
  6. Under SELECT DEVICE, click on HAVE DISK, then click on BROWSE.
  7. Select your CD ROM drive.
  8. Go to the MM folder, then go to the WIN95 folder.
  9. There should be a file highlighted on the left.
  10. Click on OK twice.
  11. The SIS5596 driver should be highlighted.
  12. Click on OK.
  13. Windows will then copy the files to your hard drive.
  14. When done, click on CLOSE, then click on APPLY.
  15. Click on YES to restart the computer and the video is installed.
