IBM PC300PL (Type 6862) - System fails to stay on or powers itself off
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
After pressing the on/off switch, or attempting to power on remotely, the system powers itself back off after 5 to 10 seconds of operation.
The system may also begin to intermittently power itself off after a period of normal operation.
Problem isolation aids:
This tip applies to IBM PC300PL series 6862 systems manufactured with a Nidec brand front cooling fan.
The front cooling fan can be identified by removing the top cover and observing the round, green and grey label located in the center of the cooling fan. The green area of the label will contain the letters "Nidec."
Affected models of Nidec cooling fans can be identified by the letters "CEI" on the bottom right corner of the FRU sticker. The FRU sticker, located on the side of the fan/speaker assembly, will be visible after removing the side bracket that is normally removed when replacing the system board.
Example of a FRU sticker with the letters "CEI" indicating an affected cooling fan:

Fix:
If the symptoms described above persist or the FRU sticker label contains the letter code "CEI", replace the fan/speaker assembly with FRU P/N 76H7332.
