Netfinity 5500 - 10/100 EtherJet PCI Adapter: Poor performance, disconnects
Applicable to: World-Wide
Source: RETAIN tip H165120
Abstract:
10/100 ETHERJET PCI ADAPTER: POOR PERFORMANCE, DISCONNECTS
SYMPTOM:
When running the network in Full Duplex mode, the network may be running slowly, or network disconnects may occur.
PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
- The system is a Netfinity 5500 server, Type 8660, any model.
- The system is configured with an IBM 10/100 EtherJet PCI Adapter, P/N 08L2549.
- The system has the described symptom.
FIX:
Manually turn on Full Duplex mode instead of allowing the adapter to auto-negotiate. You will need to manually set Full Duplex in the network switch, as well as in the Server and the Client device driver for the adapter.
DETAILS:
The problem is caused by a network switch that does not support auto negotiation mode. As with any network adapter, if the hub or switch is configured for full duplex and does not support auto negotiation, then you must use the device driver manual overrides for proper operation in full duplex mode.
