PC Server 520 - EISA/PCI Health Check

Applicable to: World-Wide

Server 520 EISA/PCI Hardware Requirements:
Note that BIOS 16T3C should be used on ALL systems, but 9F is still being shipped on new build systems. PE supports either level, but be sure to use correct EISA configuration utility. (16T3C - 4.02)

ECA003/H133326 is required to prevent multiple DDD SCSI drives in Server when only one is actually defunct.
ECA006/H133523 is required if system uses IBM PCI RAID adapter (Mylex). NOTE: This ECA is for PCI RAID Mylex 2.43, current firmware for MCA RAID is 2.21 and should be checked.
ECA012/H161379 provides for the replacement of some SCSI 1.12GB and 2.25GB hard drives in PC Server 300, 320, 325, 330, 500, 520, and 720 systems. The affected hard drives may experience read/write errors which could cause defunct drive(s) (DDD). Latest adapter drivers and configuration utility required if system uses PCI ServeRAID Adapter. Server may experience traps if this device driver isn't used. (SRVRAID1,2 from WWW/BBS dated 9/04/96).
Retain Tip H001115: L2 cache (if installed) should be inspected to verify no 'Alliance' modules are used. Alliance modules may cause server to trap/hang.
Retain Tip H122801: Bowed backplanes may cause hard disk problem.
Retain Tip H133777: Incorrect installation of jumpers on backplanes may cause RAID problems.
Retain Tip H134111: Firmware change (C43) needed for all Quantum Pass4 drives (RAID) to improve RAS. Enhancements made to recovery and hardware retry thresholds increased.
Retain Tip H123370: 16T3x BIOS reverses PCI scanning order. If multiple PCI RAID adapters are installed, the addresses will be reversed resulting in drive letters being reassigned. Workaround is t o physically swap plugging of SCSI controllers. New version included
Retain Tip H135499: Servers may hang intermittently if PCI RAID adapter cache contains certain 4 MB Hyundai SIMM.
