TP 701 - Configuring a Token Ring card in DOS/Windows
Applicable to: World-Wide
Description:
Cannot configure an IBM PCMCIA Token-ring card in a ThinkPad 701. Have tried everything and the configuration files are identical to ones that work on other ThinkPads.
Solution:
The problem is caused by a glitch in the ThinkPad 701 BIOS. This affects the area D000-D100, providing everything else is correct changing the memory areas used solves the problem. One possible set of changes is explained below.
In CONFIG.SYS make the following changes:
DEVICE=C:\EMM386.EXE NOEMS X=D400-DFFF
DEVICE=C:\THINKPAD\DICRMU01.SYS /MA=D400-DFFF
In PROTOCOL.INI change.
MMIO=D400
SRAM=D800.
Obviously the above is for DOS/Windows. Under WARP the changes will need to be made just to PROTOCOL.INI. However there is a conflict between the WARP sound driver and the token-ring card. Updating your audio drivers will solve the problem.
