0516-335 message: 15 char limit in LV names

Question:

Env: AIX 3.2.5.

Desc: Customer tried to create a logical volume with more than 15
characters in its name; get message:

0516-335 getlvname: Warning, name has been truncated to 15 characters.

Action: The limit on the size of a logical volume name in AIX is 15
characters. A logical volume name must be unique throughout
the system, must be from 1-15 characters, and cannot begin with
a prefix already defined for other devices in the PdDv class of
the Device Configuration Database. For instance, a logical
volume cannot be named hdisk99 or rmt7. It CAN be named hdiska
        or rmta.

These naming rules exist for both AIX 3.2 and 4.1.

Next: Close.
