NetView - changing symbol type

Question:

I have a problem related to the "changing symbol type" entry
in pop-up menu. When a node without snmpd is discovered, ipmap
will represent it as a generic Computer. When I modify this
symbol - I know that is's only a "graphical" activity, not
related to capabilities and so on - the new symbol appears.
Anyway, closing and re-opening the map makes ipmap redraw
the generic symbol type.

Does anyone know how to mantain the user symbols settings across
closing/reopening a map?

Answer:

By default, the ipmap application will set symbol characteristics based
upon whatever ipmap feels is "correct". Symbol type (shape and bitmap),
symbol label, and symbol status source are all updated by ipmap
at regular intervals, even if you have customized those attributes.

If you do not want ipmap to override your map customizations of the
above listed symbol characteristics, install the PTF and do the
following:

From the user interface, select File..Describe Map
Select the "IP Map" application and press "Configure for this Map"
Change the "Should IP Map override user symbol customization" flag
    to False

If you would like to have the value set to False automatically
for all maps you create in the future, edit the file
  /usr/OV/registration/C/ipmap
and after the word "ipmap" on line 37, add a " -u" flag. Now, when
you create new maps, this flag will be set automatically to False.
