cpio 0511-038 cannot write to specified

  Tape 3490e
  RISC 7013 J30
  Atape.driver 2.4.2.0

Desc:
  Customer does either a cpio or tar backup and after about
  3 to 4 tapes into the backup it will fail with error:
  cpio problem:

  cpio: 0511-038 cannot write to specified    \
             
tar problem:

 tar: 0511-195: and error occured while writing to the storage
 media.  A remote host did not respond within the timeout 
 period.

Action:
  Hardware support found not H/W problems with the tape drive.
  They update the microcode for the 3490e.  Got a shorter
  scsi cable for the tape drive from 25meters to 12meters.
  Tried different block sizes 0, 512, 1024 etc
  I sent the current GA release of Atape.driver (2.4.4.0)
  to the customer, which fixed the problem.
