Printer defined as tty will not print after jam unless power reset.

Question:

My printers don't work anymore. Help.

Response:

At 3.2.3E, the printers were defined as printers and worked fine.
After an upgrade to 3.2.4, the printers no longer work. Enqueueing
jobs brings the queues down, and cats to the /dev file either hang or
mention not being able to create the specified device.

The RAN is several buildings away from the printer, connected via 4-
wire cabling.

Printers now work as tty devices, but of course do not behave as
printers should when they are taken offline (data is simply lost).

One printer is defined as OSP and generic ASCII. XON/XOFF is on, DTR
is off. Physical printer is configured the same way.

"stty-cxma get lp0" shows "cxma, dtropen, xon, and sptr", which is
good.

I had the user set "altpin", just for fun. Didn't help.

This is the ole classic "printer not letting the RISC
see CTS high" problem.

User put a breakout box on the line, saw CTS low, tied RTS high on the
printer so the RISC would see CTS high and bingo, printing commenced.

All is well on the west coast.
