Backup nameserver won't refresh.

Question:

I am running AIX 3.2.3e and was under the impression that if you
updated the primary nameserver, the backup would automatically refresh
itself after the field refresh in /etc/named.data (set at 3600 sec) -
that it would check the serial field and refresh itself. It isn't
doing this. Is there something wrong my system or configuration ?

Response:

There was an invalid ip address in the secondary's /etc/named.boot file.

The named process on the secondary doesn't appear to check with the
primary when named is stopped and restarted. Had the customer decrease
the refresh interval to 15 minutes (900 seconds). After waiting the
refresh interval the secondary nameserver will update to the newer
files if the serial field in the SOA record has changed.

Restarting or refreshing the named daemon on a secondary nameserver
will not automatically reload the zones from the primary DNS
Nameserver. It can take up to "refresh interval" seconds for the zones
to be transferred to the secondary. The only case when the zone transfers
are done is when the files do not exist on the secondary nameserver.
