RISC System/6000: Problem with user logging in

Question:

I have a RISC System/6000 running AIX version 3.2.5. I added a
user a while back.  He is now trying to login and he receives
error messages.  I deleted and readded him, but we are still
getting the same messages. They are as follows:

     unable to open/create file
     error 2 error number 354
     directory is not in path

I am trying to add this user to a group named "eng" in which I have
about 39 users.

Response:

It appears that the user does not own his/her /$HOME directory anymore.  

You may wish to do one of two things:

1) Remove the user's directory and readd the user

                 -or-

2) Do a chown and make the user the owner once again.
