INSTALLATION:
============

Note: You will require the original Microsoft Windows 3.1 Installation
disks and the original ATI Installation disks to complete the following
Crystal Font installation.

Configure Windows 3.1 to use the Microsoft 8514/a driver. Run Windows to
ensure that the configuration is correct and working.

1) Exit Windows completely (not a DOS box).

2) Change to your Windows directory (ie. CD\WINDOWS).

3) Place the ATI 1024x768 Crystal Font Driver Disk into drive A:.
Another source device may be used but is not recommended. The Windows
3.1 Setup program may behave inconsistently if the source device is
not drive A:. Work-arounds for these inconsistencies are covered
    below in step 6 (a.

4) Type "SETUP" at the DOS prompt.

5) Select Display and scroll to the bottom of the display driver list
to select "Other (Requires disk provided by a hardware manuf.."

6) Press ENTER to select the ATI 1024x768 Crystal Font driver file.

If the filename of your driver selection exists in your Windows
directories (possibily from a previous installation), Setup will
ask if you wish to select the existing driver or a new one. Press
ESC to select a new driver and force Setup to copy the new driver
    files to your Windows directories.

If the ATI Driver Disk is not in drive A:, the following analomies
    may occur:

    a) An error message may appear indicating that there is a problem
with drive A: during the file copying process (i.e. file
VGALOGO.LGO). Press ESC once after each error box appearance
(two occur). Re-enter the location of the ATI Supplemental Driver
Disk when asked by Setup and press ENTER.

7) When Setup is complete, the Crystal Fonts must be installed from
your original ATI Accelerator diskettes, using the "INSTALL"
program. Select "Install CRYSTAL Fonts" and follow the instructions
provided on-screen. This procedure will copy the Crystal Fonts to a
directory of your choosing (i.e "C:\GSFONTS") and modify your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file by adding the location of the GSFONTS so the
driver can find them (i.e "SET GSFONTS=C:\GSFONTS"). This ATI
1024x768 Crystal Font driver. Reboot your system after you exit from
    the ATI INSTALL program.

8) Windows is ready to run. To install ATI GSTUNE utility, see the
    GSTUNE.TXT for instructions.

Notes - Accelerator based drivers:
=================================

The following features are missing from the current ATI Accelerator
drivers disk. These drivers will be provided in a later release.

. PowerPoint for Windows will cause a "General Protection Fault" if the
Accelerator driver is run in a 4 bit per pixel mode. This happens on
accelerators with 512K installed, and is not a problem with 1M.

. The Crystal Font driver supports both Crystal Fonts and Microsoft TrueType
fonts, and is compatible with Adobe Type Manager (ATM).

The Crystal Font driver has some outstanding problems, that will be fixed
in a future release:

    Windows Clock
    -------------

When running the Windows Clock in "Digital Mode", if the clock is
sized too large, the system will run very slowly. This also occurs
if the clock is maximized. Select a bitmap font (8514oem font, or
an ATM font, if you have ATM loaded), and the problem will not appear.

    WordPerfect for Windows
    -----------------------

When running WordPerfect for Windows with the Crystal Font driver,
one line of random pixels may appear while editing Graphics embedded
in documents. This has no effect on performance, printing or the
    document itself.
