 SYSOP.HLP (c) T. Jennings 10 July 1984

SYSOP is the Fido utility used to manipulate the user
list, USER.BBS. It is fairly simple to use; for help with a
specific command, hit ? again, then the command key you want
help with.
\f
Used to locate a specific name. A sliding substring
match is made: entering AN will find: any, STAN, Anthony,
etc. It is not case sensitive. The search starts at the NEXT
record (if you can see it, why search?) and wraps around to
the beginning.
\-
        Goes backwards one record.
\+
        Goes forward one record.
\b
Goes to the first record in the user file.
\z
Goes to the the last record in the user file.
\n
Enter a new name. You should enter the first and
last names together. The same limitations apply as in Fido.
It will allow you to enter a blank name; however, Fido will
not be able to find it.
\c
Enter a new city and state. Same as in Fido, using
the C command.
\p
Enter a new password. Please do not leave it blank,
as Fido will not let the guy sign on.
\v
Change privelege level. You enter the first letter
of the desired privelege, which are listed in the prompt.
They are: TWIT - low life user; DISGRACE - limited
priveleges; NORMAL - default; PRIVEL - double time limits;
EXTRA - 4 X time limits, extra commands; SYSOP - full
priveleges.
\e
Enter a new user record. Positions to the end of
USER.BBS, creates a blank NORMAL record. You then use the
commands N, C, P, etc to fill it in. It will be saved
automatically.
\q
Saves any changes, closes USER.BBS and exits to DOS.
\o
Mark old users for later deletion. (You get
prompted for a number.) Anyone who has called within
that many days gets marked as NOT DELETED; anyone over
that gets marked as DELETED. For example, entering 30
will mark as DELETED those who havent called in 30 days;
if you had entered 1200, for example, then everyone
(probably) will be marked as NOT DELETED. You can use
this to UN DELETE previously marked ones. The marked
ones will be purged by the ! command only.
\d
Mark the current record as DELETED. The record is
not actually deleted until you use the purge command, !.
\$
Set a users credit for FidoNet mail. You are
prompted for a dollar value; the number you enter is ADDED
to the credit displayed. To set the credit to a specific
value, enter =10 instead of just 10. The users debit will
first be subtracted from the credit before adding the new
credit in.
\m
Set the default Message Area the user is in when
they signon. Fido saves the last accessed message (and file)
area; by setting the privelege level of the A command (Area-
Change) you can force users into a single area that you
specify. Please see Fido's Installation Manual for details.
\k
Set the default File Area the user is in when they
signon. Fido saves the last accessed File (and message)
area; by setting the privelege level of the A command (Area-
Change) you can force users into a single area that you
specify. Please see Fido's Installation Manual for details.
\!
Purge all marked users from the USER.BBS file.
You should run O at least once, as it is possible that
older versions may have them marked as DELETED. Three
files are used: USER$$$$.$$$ is a temporary file, USER.OLD
is where deleted users are put, and USER.BBS is renamed
to USER.BAK and the temp file renamed to USER.BBS. You can
also reconstruct USER.BBS by:
    COPY/B USER.BAK+USER.OLD USER.BBS
Note that this command will not purge users with
EXTRA or SYSOP privelege, nor any user with credit left.
\a
Position to a specific record number.
