	       PC  Underground ( PCUG ) was developed to complement PC
	  Firing  Line.  It  will  NOT	address  the  programming  and
	  technical  matters  that  are  better  suited  for PC Firing
	  Line.

	       PCUG  will  reflect  the  interests  and  needs	of our
	  readership. The thrust will be in the direction indicated by
	  your response.

	       I  do  not  own	or  have  immediate  access to a color
	  monitor.  But  PCFL  does support color ( under the "Set RGB
	  Colors"   panel   ).  This  is  due  to  the  generosity  of
	  Businessland.  They  allowed me to use their RGB monitor for
	  an unlimited period of time.

³ How to Use this Magazine	   ³

	       The  menu  driven  shell  you  are  using  is for those
	  wishing  to  browse  through articles. Standard DOS commands
	  should  be used to print an article. ( At the bottom of each
	  article is the name of the file containing the article.)

	       The  largest file  that can be viewed is currently 64K.

	       When  sufficient  interest  is  displayed  PCUG will be
	  issued  as  a  magazine  separate from PC Firing Line. Until
	  then, I regard PCUG as an "added value" product to PC Firing
	  Line.

	       The  initial  offering  in  PCUG is the "Odds and Evens
	  Manual,"  and  "The 1-2-3 Advantage." The former offering is
	  actually   a	 glossary,   while   the  latter  discusses  a
	  sophisticated use of the spreadsheet 1-2-3.

	       I  have	also  received	several  suggestions  for  the
	  following introductory columns:


	       1)   1-2-3,

	       2)   BASIC (!),

	       3)   WORDSTAR.

	       4)   ProKey  files for different languages and
		    different applications.


	       Considering   only  the	BASIC  column,	there are many
	  texts  available  that  treat  BASIC for the IBM PC. I would
	  select  four	BASIC texts and use them as reference manuals.
	  Our  introductory  BASIC course would commence, and the book
	  with	the  best section on the topic being discussed will be
	  cited for further study.

³ For Color Monitors Only	   ³

	       The  program COLORFUL.EXE on this diskette allows users
	  of  an  RGB monitor to change the foreground, background, or
	  border colors of the screen.

	       When  the  user	exits  this program the colors are NOT
	  reset  to  white  on black. This allows one to find pleasant
	  color combinations, and use them under DOS.

	       The program is invoked by typing COLORFUL after the DOS
	  prompt:

	  A>COLORFUL

	  and pressing the ENTER key.

	       Most  printers  do not reproduce the full IBM character
	  set. In particular, many of the nice graphics displayable on
	  the  IBM monitor ( and used in PCUG ) may print as "garbage"
	  or at least not as expected.

	       The  routine  PRETTY1.EXE  on this diskette, will cause
	  the  printer	to  print  "extended"  graphic characters as a
	  series of asterisks.

	       To  invoke  this  module,  type	PRETTY1  after the DOS
	  prompt:

	       A>PRETTY1


	  and press the ENTER key.


	       A box on the display:
