Title: Fix for EtherLink II (3C503) Bad NIC Chip
Date: 08/30/91
Copyright 3Com Corporation, 1991. All rights reserved.

In EtherLink II adapters that were manufactured before February 1989, the
revision B National network interface controller (NIC) chip was used.
Unfortunately, the chip sometimes causes data corruption on a high-traffic
network. Symptoms of the problem range from network workstation lockups
to typos in e-mail messages. The condition is rare, but it does occur
occasionally.

To identify adapters that have the revision B NIC chip, you need only to
check EtherLink II adapters that were shipped before February 1989. Check
the National part number on the chip. If it is either DP8390N or DP8390BN,
it is the problem chip.

To fix the problem, install new drivers. The drivers are available in
the Ask3Com forum, Patches and Fixes library, in a file names NICB.ZIP.
NICB.ZIP contains all NDIS and 3+Share drivers. There is no description
attached to the files.

If you cannot obtain the drivers from the Ask3Com forum, call 3Com's RMA
department to order a free diskette upgrade. The part number for the
diskette is 8624-00.
