Note: Before attempting to create a start volume for the EtherLink 16 adapter
under LAN Manager 2.0 Start, make sure the ELNK16.DOS driver is dated 3/04/91
or later.

There are two ways to create a 3+Open Start volume for the EtherLink 16 card
when using LAN Manager 2.0 Open Start service on a 3Com 3Server. If there is a
3+Open 1.1 server on the network, you can create the start volume directly. If
there is not a 3+Open 1.1 server on the network, you can copy and edit an
existing start volume.

Creating a Start Volume With a 3+Open 1.1 Server on the Network:

1.  Boot with a 3Start-ed workstation.

2.  Link to C$ of the 3+Open 1.1 server.

3. Link to the STARTDIR sharename of the LAN Manager 2.0 server.

4. Execute 3S XCREATE to create a blank (except for the DOS boot-track files)
start volume. The new start volume will automatically be loaded into the
logical C: drive of the 3Start-ed workstation.

5. Change to the drive where C$ is linked, go into
\3open\server\lanman\netprog, and execute NETSETUP. Do an installation for a
3Start Netstation and choose the EtherLink 16 as the network adapter.

Creating a Start Volume With NO 3+Open 1.1 Server on the Network:

1.  Boot with a 3Start-ed workstation.

2. Link to the STARTDIR sharename of the LM 2.0 server.

3. Execute 3S CREATE to copy all the files within an existing start volume to
a new start volume name for the EtherLink 16.

    * When prompted, make the "Access?" privileges PRIVate.

    * For the "From?" source, use one of the default start volumes that
       uses an EtherLink adapter (for example, use ELNKII).

After completion of the 3S CREATE command, the new start volume will
automatically be linked to the logical C: drive of the 3Start-ed workstation.

4. Link to a server that contains the latest ELNK16.DOS driver and copy it
into the start volume, into C:\LANMAN\DRIVERS.

5. Edit C:\CONFIG.SYS to load ELNK16.DOS, replacing the EtherLink driver that
the volume was copied from. (For example, modify
DEVICE=C:\LANMAN\DRIVERS\elnkii.dos to read
DEVICE=C:\LANMAN\DRIVERS\elnk16.dos).

6. Edit the PROTOCOL.INI file in C:\LANMAN\DRIVERS. Under the
[XNS_TRANSPORT] section, change the BINDINGS parameter to read

    BINDINGS = ETHERLINK16.
