I just started reading this group, and I noticed that apparently Adaptec folk
are online.

I've wanted to get this off my chest for a while.

The following suggestions have been points of annoyance to me in the Adaptec
controller and I think it would make good technical sense, and marketing sense,
to implement them.

- Please -- Issuin spin up commands to the hard drives on powerup. Issuing a
spinup command to a disk that has already spun up should not cause any
problems. Not all disks spin up on powerup, and in fact there is good reason
why they shouldn't.

- Please -- in the CD ROM drivers, send a command to set the sector size to
2k. DEC drives require this command.

- I believe that one should not have to pay extra money for drivers to use
a $300 device you just bought. I think it is poor marketing sense to require
people to buy expensive optional/extra drivers for common SCSI devices such as
CD ROM drives and hard drive 3+. Bundling Corel software w/Adaptec is a good
move. Too bad it doesn't save any money over buying them separately.
