Thank you for this valuable info, at least for me.
I will get an (no-name) EISA system next week and an 1742 SCSI-controller.

Can you tell whether the 1740 or the 1742 (or even both) are one of those
out-of-spec EISA-boards ?
It is not very important for me to know that now, because I can avoid
conflicts with other EISA boards by chosing you solution. I just have
2 EISA boards (SCSI and VGA) in the system, but I may add more, later.
