Delphi Form Inspector, Version 1.01

Delphi Form Inspector is copyright 1996 by Michael Bate.

The shareware version may be redistributed freely, but
please keep all the files in this distribution together.

The files are:

      INSTALL.TXT (this file)
      HISTORY.TXT (program history)
      FILE_ID.DIZ (program description)
      DFMVIEW.EXE (executable)
      DFMVIEW.HLP (help file)

The documentation is in the help file, DFMVIEW.HLP.

Delphi Form Inspector is a 16-bit application, and will
work with Delphi version 1.0 forms. It will also work
with most Delphi 2.0 forms. A 32-bit version is available
that will work with all Delphi 2.0 forms. This lacks the
registration verification. I will send a copy to any
registered user of Delphi Form Inspector who requests it.

Delphi Form Inspector should work work (but has not been
tested with) Windows NT.

The shareware version may be used for 30 days but must
then be registered. Instructions for registering are
included in the help file (DFMVIEW.HLP). The easiest
way to register, if you are on Compuserve, is to go
to the shareware registration area.

To install:

Create a directory (suggested name: C:\DLPHFORM)
or decide you want to use an existing directory.

Copy the files DFMVIEW.EXE and DFMVIEW.HLP into
the directory.

On Windows 3.1, use File/New from Program manager to
create an icon.

On Windows 95, choose Start/Settings/Task Bar to Add
a new item to the Start/Programs menu.

In either case, browse to the executable (DFMVIEW.EXE in
the directory where you installed it) and select it.
Choose an appropriate description ("Delphi Form Inspector")
and use the built-in icon.

A warning about Windows 95 Registry:

The PVCS interface of Delphi Form Inspector invokes the PVCS DOS
executables. The .EXE extent should be registered as an executable, and
not assigned to something else.

For some reason, and I do not understand why this happened, on one of my
computers this extent was registered as "mime" or some such thing and when
I went to execute a DOS executable, either under Delphi Form Inspector or
simply by double-clicking it in Windows Explorer, a DOS box came up with
the error message "DOSIME" program not found (or some such thing).
Clearly some software that I installed had changed this on me. I had to
go in to registry editor and change the assignment (file extents are
listed under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT). While the problem made it impossible to
execute DOS executables using Explorer, it did not affect Windows
executables. If anyone encounters this problem and needs assistance,
please contact me via email. If you have some better idea of what was
going on, please contact me also. Thanks.
