"Erlang" mathematical models were developed by the communications industry
for "network sizing". For example, how many phone lines does a network node
need to handle a given traffic volume. However the models may be used for any
similar sizing problem; for example:

1. How many simultaneous sessions does my Internet www server need
to support?
2. How many employees and/or phone lines do I need in customer
service? (Careful; this is not a queuing model.)
3. How many transactions for our credit card processor in the peak
hour/minute?
4. How many phone lines for my bulletin board?

Installation Instructions

ERLANG33.XLW is an Excel based spreadsheet which uses the Erlang B
mathematical model to perform these calculations. The shareware is distributed
as a self-extracting compressed file; ERLANG33.EXE.

To install the shareware execute ERLANG33.EXE. The result will be four (4) files
in the same directory as the distribution file:

ERLANGBS.XLA -- This is a compiled, visual basic macro. It adds a new
user defined function at the time Excel is started. THIS FILE MUST BE
COPIED TO THE EXCEL\XLSTART SUB-DIRECTORY. (Note to
Windows 95 users -- move or copy the actual file; do not point to it with a
"short-cut" file.)

ERLANG33.XLW -- This is the worksheet/workbook file and may be
moved/copied to any convenient directory. Only five simple data elements
are required to perform the calculations. The Workbook includes an
introduction, instructions, license and ordering information. The
worksheets are password protected. Password protection enables the
calculations but prevents modifications to the worksheets. RDN will
provide passwords when the software is registered.

README.TXT -- A copy of this text file as a "flat DOS" file.

README.DOC -- A copy of this text file for users with Microsoft Word.

YOU MUST RESTART EXCEL AFTER THE FILES HAVE BEEN DE-
COMPRESSED AND MOVED TO THE APPROPRIATE DIRECTORIES.

If you want to replicate this shareware on other computers you must copy both
the ERLANG33.XLW worksheet and the ERLANGBS.XLA macro. (Copy the
ERLANGBS.XLA file to the XLSTART sub-directory.) The worksheet will not work
without the macro.
