Thanks, Jim.  I took a look at what you said, though, blinked, and
realized we were talking about the same thing (only you were obviously
clearer).  Adding the ones together and counting them produces the same
result (ignoring overflow, of course).

Actually, I did see RAM die once, in a way, but that was due to the faulty
controller which decided to burn out my nice, docile RAM, and throw in
strange quirks to my system that eventually forced me to get a new motherboard
and experience the NMI problem.  Argh.
