To anyone:
Does anyone know if Advanced Gravis has released the daughtercard
for the GUS that will allow me to record at 16-bit CD quality sound yet? I
called Gravis 6 months ago and the rep told me that they would have it out
by the month. I have not heard anything. Anybody have any information that
could help me? Thanks!

Subject: 7th Guest, HELP!!

Hi,

I am trying to run 7th guest with t7gfix3.zip (GUS driver fix) that I downloaded from epas. However, when I unzip it, there are no directions on how to use it. There are no files that look like GUS drivers. (Ultramid is there, but that's it) . I run the install program and there is no option for GUS. T7gfix3.zip comes with a file that lists all the files that should be present after unzipping, and there are about 20 missing. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE? Can anyone help, please??? Am I supposed to modify

       Thanks In Advance,

I just got access to an internet account, but I dunno how to
use ftp! (I'm an internet beginner!) I can get to, say
"archive.epas.utoronto.ca" but
after that, it won't accept my login and password. Don't want
to take up too much room here, so if a kind soul can just email
the basics on how to use FTP to me I'd gladly appreciate it.

HI GUSsers,

Does anyone know the exact price of the MIDI box in Canadian $$?
I need to send in my order for but don't know the price. btw, for interna-
tional customers, is there a faster way in which we can get our stuff
apart from surface mail? My friend got his MIDI box after 2 months of waiting!

btw, has anyone managed to get the GUS running encore in MPU401 dumb mode?

Subject: GUS Amp Out -> Volume control

Not too far back, someone(s) were discussing connecting a volume control to
the GUS. I don't remember the details, but I believe it was mentioned that
a headphone volume control from Radio Shack would do the trick, IF used on
the older GUS's...? (with only 2W not 4W?) If someone has the detail on
this, or remembers when they were posted, please drop me a line.

Also -- recently I've been looking in to connecting the internal speaker of
my PC to some amplified source, namely the GUS. I was originally just going
to use the Mic input. But... is the CDROM jack (4 pin) good for anything?
Can I use that instead?

I can do the same under Windows (if I remove my GUS Windows drivers first).
It seems that only GUS users can since the card doesn't force the task of
mixing the MOD music on the CPU as do the SB's and those of their ilk.

Gravis once sponsored the radio show "On Computers". I don't know if
they still do or not. Gravis also had their own race car in the Vancouver
Indy. I'm waiting for the TV spot. :)

It shouldn't help since when playing the notes, the DMA channel isn't
used at all. DMA transfer occurs only at the start when patches are
being loaded into GUS RAM. Once they are loaded, all the subsequent
control is done through I/O port accesses.

That it's still buggy on 1 Meg GUSes, but can be made quite bearable
by clearing GUS memory before running the game, and using the GUS on
a 16-bit DMA channel.

Ultramid has a switch for you to adjust the volume of the music. I think
it's -m<nnn>.

Subject: Links 386 Pro

I know this is probably an old topic but I recently bought a new hard drive
and decided to re-install Links 386 Pro. It worked fine before I got my
GUS but I can't seem to get it working now. I have the -x2 switch for SBOS
but that doesn't help. The strange thing is, I tried booting my computer
with no references to the GUS in the config.sys or autoexec.bat files and
selecting no sound in Links and it's still not working. I get past selecting
a player and course and then it crashes. Does this mean I have some kind
of hardware conflict? BTW, I have a 486-DX50, with an ATI Ultra, if that
helps. I'd appreciate any advice anyone might be able to offer. Thanks.

Subject: Nothing seems to work with SBOS 2.08 anymore...

Anyone notice that none of the new games seem to work (digital sound and
music) with SBOS 2.08 anymore? To name a few...

   Jurassic Park
   Dungeon Hack
   Simon the Sorcerer
   ShadowCaster
   Elite II
   Indy Racing
   Metal and Lace
   Anything recent by Apogee

These are all games (and/or demos) that work beautifully with the SB or SB
Pro, but will not work with the GUS and SBOS 2.08.

This is frustrating! Is anything being done about this? Is the new
version of Mega-em supposed to superceed SBOS and work better in its FM
emulation?

I sure am disappointed by the state of things with SBOS. Should I go back
to using SBOS 1.21 (the only one that REALLY worked with most things)?

Let Gravis know we are having problems!

Subject: sbos and epic pinball

Hiya,

I'd like to make a comparison of Epic Pinball's GUS sound and SoundBlaster
sound. How do you get sound out of it using SBOS 2.08?

While I'm on the subject, it seems that activating the Android's system is
a real pain, cos you have to shoot that right sink hole. The only way I can
see of making this shot, is with the left flipper, but I've never been able
to make this shot intentionally! Am I missing an easy way of making this
shot, or am I just a lousy pinball player? (can't be the latter, all modesty
aside for the moment, but I was the York University Pinball champ in 90-91!)
I've never been able to get multi-ball cos of that shot! Any suggestions
anyone? Since this second question isn't really GUS related, send me direct
e-mail, if you don't mind. One more thing, that left lane shot is also
pretty hard to intentionally make...any strategies for that one?

Thanks!
Nemo De Furia.
