(From Windows Multimedia Forum -- GO WINMM)

Here's how to get your PC Speaker to play WAV files if you have
no sound card:

1. Download the speaker driver. You can downloaded from this library on
the WINMM forum (SPEAK.EXE) or from Microsoft at
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/mslfiles/speak.exe.
2. Run speak.exe to decompress and make speaker.drv
3. Copy speaker.drv to \windows\system
4. Make a backup of your system.ini in \windows\system ...just to be
safe.
5. Edit your system.ini and under the [drivers] section, add the line:

Wave=speaker.drv

And then add a new section to system.ini as shown below:

[speaker.drv]

CPU Speed=32
Volume=1000
Version=774
Enhanced=1
Max seconds=0
Leave interrupts enabled=0

6.  Save your system.ini
