Summary of Changes in CompuShow Version 8.60:
============================================

 - New graphic file format: JPEG (JFIF)

 - Dithering in all (2, 4, 16, 256, 32k, and 64k color) modes!

 - Rescaling in all modes including hi-color and true-color modes.

 - Gamma-correction option for full-color gamma 1.0 graphics.

 - An optional 'rescale most' setting will rescale everything but a 2-color
image (to avoid 'trashing' a monochrome dither pattern).

 - Redesigned graphics information box and extended video drivers support up
   to fifteen video driver modes.

 - The graphics information box includes a (clickable) prompt to allow you to
change display options such as dithering and rescaling inside the graphics
   information box.

 - Optionally turn off GIF comment display.

 - Complete redesign of command line options (and the enhanced program
setup) gives you better control of all optional features:

    - specify the hardware mouse cursor or a favorite software mouse shape.

    - precise control of EMS or XMS memory usage.

    - selectively disable 'extended VGA' modes and BIOS DAC setting.

 - In addition, in the enhanced (registered) program:

    - set a default script delay time

    - new 'print negative' option

Program Description and Features: Overview
==========================================

 * CompuShow begins by displaying a directory of your disk files, which may be
sorted by file name, extension, size or date. Page through multiple screens
or jump immediately to a file name by typing the first letter.
 * Move to a different disk drive or sub-directory by pointing to it and
pressing a key or clicking the mouse.

 * Select a graphic file for display by moving a highlight bar around the file
directory with the cursor keys or mouse.

 * Display a graphic in any mode supported by your video adapter (for example,
a VGA adapter supports CGA, EGA, and MCGA displays), or pressing the
spacebar tells the program to automatically select the "best display mode",
based on the size and number of colors in the image.

 * CompuShow displays CompuServe GIF and RLE, MacPaint, Dr. Halo, PC Paint,
PC Paintbrush, RIX Ega Paint and ColoRix, Targa 16/24/32, uncompressed and
RLE, mapped and RGB images, IFF/ILBM/HAM, Windows BMP, TIFF, Gem/Ventura
   IMG and JPEG (JFIF) graphics.

[Maximum of FIFTEEN of the above modes. NOTE: If there are fewer than 15
modes and your "VESA compliant" VGA should support mode(s) that don't appear
in CompuShow, contact the BOARD MANUFACTURER. The reason they're not shown
is because the video BIOS (the software part of the board) says it can't do
those mode(s), so the "fix" HAS TO COME FROM THE BOARD MANUFACTURER!]

 * Images larger than the physical screen may be "panned", using the cursor
   arrow keys.

 * Any monochrome display may be negated (reversing black and white) with a
   single keystroke.

 * The "brightness" of any monochrome image may be adjusted.

 * On an EGA/MCGA/VGA display, colors may be adjusted and the adjusted palette
   saved to disk.

                        Standard Program Version 8.60a
==============================================================================

The latest standard version of CompuShow is available in the One-Stop Bit
Conference 0 as CSHOWA.EXE, which is a "self-extracting" archive.

Download the file as CSHOWA.EXE and execute "CSHOWA" to extract the program,
user's guide and all other files. (Since this is a SELF-EXTRACTING archive,
you DON'T NEED a separate "de-archive" program.)

By becoming a registered CompuShow user (for $25), you will receive a copy of
the enhanced program (Version 8.60b), which includes all features of the
standard program plus:

 * The System Configuration program allows you to install screen colors, and
to specify a number of "program start-up options", including a disk drive
and sub-directory to be selected automatically.
